The rejections for me are better than the waiting. That doesn't mean they don't suck, though.
-
I haven't seen anything about those programs on here or Draft, so you're still in the clear!
-
I'm still waiting on three schools (possibly two, depending on whether UW has made its decisions), but I spent a fair amount of time today making up a spreadsheet of 51 schools to narrow down for next year. And now I feel like I'm insane for obsessing this much.

It's a Facebook group that's for the same purpose as this site, essentially. But it has a lot of MFA veterans, faculty, etc., so there's a lot of useful information.

I'm not expecting a rejection this soon. More just curious because yesterday around 4pm someone on Draft was accepted for poetry. She said she was the first they called, and they told her they would be making more calls. So far no other acceptances have come through on these sites, and it could be that the other admitted students aren't on here, but there might still be some hope for fiction.
-
Are you poetry or fiction? I've only seen acceptances for poetry, so I'm hoping I'm still in the running for fiction.

Same! Although I'm already getting so many rejections that by the time Notre Dame rolls around I might just be cold and dead inside.
-
Nothing from ND yet, but I think they usually notify in March because of their later deadline.
-
Congrats! That's definitely a tough choice to make. Hollins seems like a really cool school.

My only positive from this week is that the other night, while tossing and turning in my bed, I decided I'm going to write a short story called "What's the Problem, Bill?" with nothing planned out other than the title. And now I've gotten some productivity back this morning.
-
Sorry, but I think you've found the wrong forum. This is for creative writing applicants. Best of luck, though!
-
True. I'll hold onto hope for one more day!

Even though it wasn't one of my top choices, the Washington one just hurts. Obviously being an alumni doesn't make a difference as a candidate, but I had such a great experience there as an undergrad and feel a real bond with the school.

Three weeks ago my thinking was "I'm unemployed, but it's cool because I have some money saved up and I can just cruise until grad school." Now I'm at "Shit, I need to go get a new job in the middle of this pandemic and I need to find a new place to live."

Oof. There goes the atom bomb.

Mine was based on a mixture of program reputation and location. I prefer to stay in a city. I applied to Ole Miss anyways, thinking it might be easier to get in (I was wrong) but probably won't apply there next year. With Iowa I figured it was worth sacrificing the city to attend the most famous program. Notre Dame is a little more rural than I'd like, but it's so close to Chicago I figure I can make it work. Next year my list might look totally different, though, as I will (assuming this year doesn't work out) apply to a lot more schools. My "for sure" list for next year currently looks as follows (in no particular order), but I still haven't finished narrowing it down yet: Cornell Brown Michener Vanderbilt Washington WUSTL Wisconsin Syracuse Minnesota Virginia Pitt Michigan Rutgers-Camden Northwestern

As someone else said, rankings are way too subjective to be defined, and that's why Poets and Writers stopped doing them. That said, Syracuse is always one of the most sought-after schools, seemingly just below that Iowa-Michener-Virginia tier, and schools like Hunter generally aren't as competitive as that because you don't have 1,000 kids competing for schools that aren't even fully funded.
-
Poets & Writers stopped ranking programs, but the last time they did their rankings Syracuse was #6 and Hunter was #28. And even if Hunter was better-ranked, they don't fully fund people out of state, so that automatically rules them out for me.
-
Syracuse is on my list for next year. As much as I'd love to go to school in NYC, the funding at Syracuse is good, the program has a great, longstanding reputation, and it's a cheap-ass city to live in.
-
Some schools (can't remember which off the top of my head) have sent out waitlists before acceptances, so here's hoping you're in!
-
Any Wyoming applicants? There are some decisions on Draft. I almost applied there, but decided last-minute that I can't live in Laramie, despite its natural beauty.
-
Really hoping we hear from Notre Dame soon!

Last week I got three rejections and all the emotional stimulation made it easier to read and write again, and now I've hit writer's block again in what has been an uneventful couple of days. My body craves more admissions results.
-
Have you seen any from this year? Covid may have messed their schedule up.

So glad I didn't get that email; I'd be nursing a concussion from jumping into the ceiling.
