Counselling Psychology Applicants 2022 CANADA
T.O.hopeful replied to cofffeee's topic in Psychology Forum
Are they accepting without interviews or not accepting anyone? I didn't apply but had considered before I decided not to. Would hate for people to have paid the application fee just for the program to decide not to accept anyone ? -
2022-2023 Clinical Psychology Applications - Canada

I emailed the grad department yesterday asking if all interview invites had gone out already and they said interviews were still ongoing. That said, POIs have been reaching out to do interviews for a few weeks now and there was an Open House last Friday where they mentioned offers may go out by the next week (i.e., this week)...so things are definitely moving. So, even though they said interviews are ongoing, for my mental health i'm considering this a soft rejection so I can focus on other schools haha -

*Pain* but thanks for this info! Not to vent but if programs have internal deadlines of when rankings should be submitted, would it really kill schools to just be transparent and publish estimated timelines about interview invites on their website, so you don't have applicants waiting in the dark? Just being upfront by saying the dates are an estimate will allow us to know it may not be exact but to provide absolutely zero timelines seems unnecessary to me. Anyways venting over! -
Like a few have mentioned psychology programs can really vary across the country and what you research can vary as well, as it will depend on which professor agrees to take you on as supervisor and what their area of research is. Therefore, you should take a look at the psychology department websites of the schools you're interested in to see if there are professors there are doing the kind of research you're interested in. I also want to echo the last poster who said research fit is more important than "school name". I noticed you mainly listed ivy league schools and honestly with doctoral psychology programs, I would not limit myself to just these kind of schools. Look at various schools on the East coast and focus on the research taking place in the departments. Also be sure to check the admissions section of each school to see if you meet all the prerequisite course requirements.

I would like to think (hope) no as some people received interview invites in early February last year. Considering deadline to upload documents was January 8, I think it's still reasonable to have not heard anything yet. That said, I reached out to their graduate department, so i can pass on whatever info I hear back! -

Hey there, email came from ACB and BA cc'd but they aren't my POIs listed, so I think it could be a pre-interview to assess fit in the program possibly? I'm 0-2 on moving on to formal interview stage after pre-interviewing so my confidence is shaky but I hope it goes well lol -

Thanks! The research fit was the greatest so wasn't really surprised/overly upset, which is helping. And it was an email directly from the POI -

Unfortunately didn't get extended a formal invite after pre-interviewing with AK. Good luck to those who are shortlisted for Ryerson Visiting Day! -

Not to cause any paranoia for people who were rejected from York so early on but there's a person on the MSW page who reached out after their portal changed to "unsuccessful" and was told it was because they didn't meet the B+ average. Long story short, the admissions committee calculated the GPA wrong and the person is now back under consideration. If you're at all suspicious about why you were rejected so soon, may not hurt to looking into things! -

I have an MPH in Epidemiology from UofT. I graduated in 2013 so things may totally be different now but from my experience non-thesis programs don't have big research components to it, e.g., we did practicum placements rather than a thesis. If you're interested in building up your research experience and you like epi, then I would suggest MSc epi programs over the MPH programs. But that said, I think i remember someone getting into OISE last year who was finishing up their MPH, so it's obviously not a dealbreaker to do an MPH, it's just a matter of how much research experiencing you're looking for during a masters? -

Their website says February 14-16. You should post clin psych-related questions on the Canada Clinical Psychology page though, as there may be more people there that have the answers to your questions! -

I received an email late last night from the graduate admissions department saying my application was still being evaluated and they apologize for the delay. Definitely thought it was a rejection email at first, almost panicked.. -

Has anyone received an interview invite for York this week (for adult stream)? -

Depending on which schools/programs you applied to it may still be quite early to hear a response. Some programs did not contact students for interviews until late January/early February last year. Nothing's official until you receive a response! -
UofT - MSW Program - Fall 2022 Applications

So far, everyone who's indicated which MSW stream they applied to has said Mental health stream. I am also one of those people! ? I'm mentally preparing myself for the difficulty to get into this program on account for their potentially being more mental health stream applicants! I'm assuming they try to accept equal numbers of people into each stream? But I guess I don't know for sure! -

Also wondering this. If the graduate administrator has already sent at least one applicant a formal invite, I'm guessing they sent the others as well. I hope people not extended a formal invite will be notified sooner rather than later ... -

Luckily, only 1 or 2 schools I applied to mentioned a writing sample and it was optional. I didn't submit one for the exact reason you mention. I've been out of school since 2013 and I'm a much better writer now, so any sample from school would not have been an accurate depiction of my current writing skills. If I had applied anywhere that had a mandatory writing sample requirement, I likely would have looked into whether it can be something I draft specifically for the application. As someone mentioned, peer-reviewed papers are tricky because it's rare one person writes the entire thing without others/senior authors revising it, so it's hard to know someone's base level of writing skills pre-revision. That said, I honestly wouldn't worry that much about it. The writing sample is not going to make or break you receiving an interview and/or offer as it will likely be weighted lower than your GPA, research experience, statement letter, and maybe even references. Plus having a first author paper to even submit is a major strength for your application, so don't worry about it! -
