LOL I was literally in the same boat as you as of 3 days ago. I couldn't for the life of me remember what my independent study was on (I completed it in 2011). So, I checked through my old emails and found a cover letter I had sent to a school practicum job posting in 2012 and wouldn't you know, I mentioned the project that I did for my independent study in the cover letter! So, if there's any chance you're like me and keep really old emails, I'd say try and go back far enough to see if you happened to mention it anywhere. I definitely had no recollection of mentioning my independent study to prospective employers, so it's totally possible you also may have mentioned it an email but just forgotten. That said, if you can't find anything in old emails, I wouldn't worry. I interviewed with one school last year and the independent study was never mentioned.

2022-2023 Clinical Psychology Applications - Canada

Hi everyone! This will be my second year applying for programs but first year also applying to the CGS-M award. Since the award only allows 3 programs to be listed and I'm applying to more than 3 schools, should I basically assume that programs I don't list as my top 3 for the CGS-M award are going to negatively rate my application/unlikely to accept me? Seems like every school website suggests applying for this external award but they only let you list 3 schools on the application...and I've previously won OGS, so I'm not eligible for this Just looking for some advice on whether I should not apply to much more than 3 programs if they're unlikely to consider me due to lack of external funding? -

Counselling Psychology Applicants 2021 CANADA

I believe you can register as a psychologist in Ontario with just a Masters degree as long as you are registered as a Psychologist in another province. For example, the website for the College of Psychologists of Ontario indicate that if you're a registered psychologist in another province, e.g. Alberta, you have to take/pass an exam to be registered to practice as a psychologist in Ontario. Meaning, techically you can practice as a Registered Psychologist in Ontario if you get a Masters degree in a province that allows you to register as a psychologist with just the Masters. I've seen some psychologists working in Ontario with only a Master's degrees and they use CPsych as their designation, so they're either lying (lol) or it's because they received their designation from another province. -

Not CPA accredited but according to the CRPO website, Yorkville is a recognized/accepted program (https://www.crpo.ca/recognized-accepted-programs/) to register as a Psychotherapist. Though based on the recognition date, looks like they are up for renewal, so not sure what the status is for that program. -

A couple of people have received offers already based on the results page and someone posted on here. But not sure if that just happened to be eager POIs or if all 5 offers have gone out already.- 2,510 replies

All the program websites I looked at were pretty explicit about whether the program was funded or not, so I would say successful applicants should already know whether they will be accepted with (or without) funding pretty early on the process. So far, for me it seems like most clinical psychology programs offer some form of guaranteed funding, while the counselling programs typically aren't funded unless they are thesis or paper-based.- 2,510 replies

Like the previous poster said, you've already received some good advice but thought I'd share what I noticed for myself during this admission cycle. I'm also interested in clinical psychology but for every program I've looked at so far (Canadian schools), the faculty whose research most fit with my interests are social psychologists and not clinical psychologists. I haven't received official rejections yet but I suspect they will come. So for the next year, I really need to think about what my career goal is because I actually do want to be a therapist/clinician but if faculty with my research interests are not clinical psychologists, it really makes me question if clinical psychology is what I should be doing... Not sure if this is similar to you in that your interests tend to align with non-clinical psychologists but you claim the research fit is amazing, so I think it is worth exploring whether you could have an enjoyable career if you do this program, especially if there is a way to examine clinical populations without needing to be a licensed psychologist.

My undergrad CGPA in last 2 years was 3.9 and in my previous Masters, a 3.8. I have 8 years of research experience, including last 5 years in mental health research and didn't get an interview from OISE. With only 5 faculty members accepting students this year, I knew my chances were slim as my research interests most align with a faculty member who wasn't taking anyone this year. I think regardless of the school, getting into clinical or counselling psych programs is difficult due to how few people they accept compared to how many apply, so for those of you that have gotten accepted, it's really impressive-- congrats!! Not to sound cheesy, but for those who don't get in anywhere, don't give up-- the pandemic has shown just how much the world needs more counsellors and those that work in careers focused on helping people! -

Thanks for letting us know. I gave in and emailed the program director after seeing this message and was told the same thing, I've been waitlisted. Really disappointed as it's hard to have to rely on person(s) ahead of me declining. But guess I'll have to wait and see. Congrats to those who received a first round offer nonetheless!!- 2,510 replies

Yup, I'm the same as you. But for me, I only applied to 2 schools and I'm assuming rejection from one, so I'm REALLY desperate for my other school. I understand that there's a lot of administrative processes involved in giving offers but I really wish programs could make a point of trying to minimize the time between interviews taking place and offers being made. Interviewing and then not hearing about offers (or rejection/waitlist) for a month or longer is a bit torturous!- 2,510 replies

For those wondering about OISE CCP, I was told by the program administrator that applications are still being reviewed and some faculty are reaching out to applicants for more information but not all faculty will need to do this. So, not sure if that means some POIs will select applicants without reaching out for an interview...? But anyways, they said late March is when they're aiming to have all applicants contacted. I suspect those accepted will here back a lot sooner though!- 2,510 replies
