I had 4 interviews. I am a dude. I wore a white dress shirt and blue tie to all of them. I know it probably doesn't matter, but I would rather be over-dressed than under-dressed. Plus, you want to make a good first impression. Nobody is going to give you shit for over-dressing, but they might if you are under-dressed (unconscious bias at least). All my interviewers were not dressed up at all lol. One of my interviewers even laughed and asked me "why are you all dressed up?". I told him "I want to set a good impression" and it made him laugh and kind of made the interview more chill lol. TLDR: DRESS TO IMPRESS BABY. IT DOESN'T HURT!

Happy Friday everyone! Wanted to share that I got an interview with Nevada. Not a crazy top ranked program like some of you guys  but I’m pumped to finally hear news. I’m a little untraditional of an applicant with no formal research experience and limited publications so it felt nice to get an interview invite!

Happy to see some people getting acceptances
My anxiety level is now astronomical - I just need any decision notice at this point to calm down haha

Just received notification that I was recommended for admission to the Health Services Research PhD Program at Brown University. The Graduate School there will be formally sending me my acceptance and offer letter soon. Hope others who applied to the program also hear back positively.

Hi! I applied to the health economics and policy track! I also have been trying so hard not to think about all of the anxiety that's building up. Mainly just hanging out with my cat and remembering that I still have work to do......

Hi guys! Long time lurker, first time poster. I figured I'd add my information to the conversation, especially since I've learned so much from other posters.

I applied to different HPM schools for fall 2021.

    Interview Request: WUSTL, Drexel, IUPUI

No word yet: Brown (although I already assume I'm out), JH, Vanderbilt

I also applied to a couple of public policy PhD's, but that's less relevant here.

Hey there! Any chance you applied to the Health and Public Policy track for the JHU HPM PhD? I believe that @DarkPassenger applied to the HSR track but I've been trying to track down folks who applied to HPP to commiserate lol. The wait is also killing me!! I had a very anxiety-filled dream about the JHU decision last night lol.

That's correct -- I applied to HSR. I think different tracks have different timelines?

I had an informal interview with JHU HPM PhD. Decisions should be sent this week or in the next 2 weeks. The wait is killing me. Constantly checking the portal like an idiot lol

Hi, I am referring to the public health sciences program. I interviewed last Friday and I'm a domestic student. I'm under the impression that interview requests are out though.... sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I received invitations to interview for Harvard Health Policy (Decision Science) and Stanford Health Policy (Decision Science) on Monday/Tuesday, so I don't think it's particularly late in the cycle yet.

It's likely all tracks for epi. The JHU PhD admissions process for epidemiology is basically as follows:
    1) the admissions committee (admin and faculty) review all of the applications and form a short list.
    2) This short list is then sent to the specific tracks that the applicants applied to, and the faculty in those tracks decide from that list who they would like to invite to interview.
    3) After interviews, they send their top choice candidates back to the admissions committee.
    4) The admissions committee then ultimately decides who gets accepted/waitlisted/rejected.
So the admissions committee probably wants each track to send them their top picks by the end of this month so that they can make their final decisions and send out acceptances in mid-February (in recent years acceptances have gone out ~Feb 13th).
I'm not sure whether this information will reduce or increase stress but I think generally knowledge is power, and I appreciated being told how the process worked by a faculty member when I was applying. I also think knowing the process makes it a little easier to realize that even if you don't get in, it is not personal. There are hundreds of qualified and exceptional applicants and only ~14 spots. It's rough, but please hang in there! I wish this whole forum all the best of luck this admissions season!

Just got my first rejection letter from Emory's PhD in BSHES program less than an hour ago. Needless to say, having my first decision be a rejection surely stings a bit, but regardless, I'm trying to keep my head up and stay optimistic. More than anything, this whole application process has taught me to be more patient, kind, and understanding with myself. My mentality is that although this program didn't see that "special something" in me, perhaps the next one will. ?
As cliché as it is - I believe we will all end up where we were meant to end up! Sending good vibes and best wishes to everyone else here anxiously awaiting their decisions. Remember that we are all capable, hard-working, and determined individuals with our own unique contributions to make to the field of public health! Hang in there, everyone!
