I'm not too sure I understand what you mean when you say question and answer...

but here's a small screenshot of what I'm seeing on my end under the documents tab. Each PDF is doubled now. (I blurred my name).

Are you on mobile? On my computer, mine looks like this

Either way, I guess better to have it twice than not at all haha

Hey! I’m not an applicant this year (just around preparing to apply for 2022) but I believe I saw on the UofT and/or Western website that you need a Mid B in your final 5 full courses (10 half courses)- so typically your last year of school you’d still need a total mid B GPA, including courses in the final semester.

With PREREQS, from what I’ve seen UofT is very strict with the minimum B+ grade in each PREREQ. So that should still stand if someone were taking prereqs after submitting application and put IPR on application.

I would double check the website to be sure :)

Makes sense! I didn't apply to UofT but I did look at the Western site, which just says a minimum B average over your last 10 courses. Easy enough! I was just curious if they could consider rescinding an application if your SubGPA dropped after your last classes or something, but it sounds like a lot of schools don't even look at it until the program has already begun

    Hey all!

I hope you all are doing well!

Good luck to all those who have their MMI's! Just be yourself and do not stress too much!

I was wondering if there was anyone else on this thread that for whatever reason was only able to apply to one University like me? I find not having any back ups to be very nerve-racking. So whether I get in or not determines my fate for the following year. My sGPA is 3.40 which is not the greatest (I had a really bad third year due to some personal circumstances) but I do not want to lose hope! I volunteer with a clinic currently and I have worked with 3 separate SLPS and all of them have said that they think I would be a great SLP! Which I guess is very encouraging!! So I hope Western can look past my sGPA and I hopefully get accepted!

Now I know I just said that I am feeling the anxiety, but I will say that from what I have read about the others in this thread you all seem like very smart, kind and just over all great people! So try not to stress too much guys, and I wish you the best of luck in your applications and for the future!

    -Pav

Hey! I applied to more than one school but I also had a bad third year that really affected my ORPAS subGPA. You're not alone, I hear you! It's frustrating, especially when these things are beyond our control now. Clinic volunteering can be a great way to improve an application, crossing  my fingers for you. Best of luck :)

I can really only speak to UofA, but all they required from us was updated transcripts later and it was already like a semester into the program too. They didn't seem to care about the grade, just wanted to see the classes were completed.

Awesome, thanks! Super appreciative of the current students who peruse this thread. I guess they just want to make sure you graduated then, makes sense!

Guilty over here ??‍♀️ Was tempted to email Vicki using an alias to ask when we can expect decisions lol ?

Haha omg... this has crossed my mind before. Not going to do it but I am also checking my email obsessively. I keep telling myself that there's no way they'll send decisions over the weekend and I should just completely log out of my email but honestly, I'll still probably check

  6. Does anyone know, if you get an an acceptance while you are finishing your degree, how 'conditional' is it on your performance in you classes in your final semester (assuming they aren't pre-reqs)? I intend to do well in my classes haha but curious how closely they look

Unfortunately no, I've taken both CSD undergraduate courses to improve my subGPA and I really liked them, but relocating that far is not an option for me. I've only applied to Ontario schools and it's not looking good :( But not losing hope until April 1!

Best of luck! I'm hoping other schools offer a more balanced consideration of our application.

Absolutely. I've been balancing volunteering with updating my grades and working full time for a couple of years, so learning that UofT may completely disregard that is a punch in the gut.

Well a few posts above you mentioned that you did get a letter from an SLP anyway, and if Western mentioned that thing with prior arrangements I'm sure they'll consider it. There's still some hope for Western!

I hope so! Based on your handle it sounds like you're from Alberta, have you applied there? It sounds like they're still placing weight on it as well. There's still hope for us!

I think it'd be extremely unfair for them not to consider volunteering experiences at all. As tazm mentioned, some people spent years accumulating hundreds of hours. Hypothetically, Covid would have affected those that did not do any volunteering up until March 2020, which would have been a bit late to start. Also it made it harder but not impossible to get hours (I'm still doing online volunteering), so the fair thing would be to give it less weight.

Yeah, it's really frustrating to read that U of T has dismissed it all togehter, and now I'm worried about my western app. I completely understand and respect that it was really hard for some people. That being said, balancing volunteering with school is tough and it seems that the fair thing for those who have spent years volunteering or even acquired paid positions would be the make the evaluation either/or, not to dismiss it altogether :(

For anyone who applied with volunteer hours, did you still get your SLP to write a reference letter?

I got a letter of reference from an SLP. I had asked her in 2019 or early 2020 (can't remember) and their site indicated that it was ok if you had made prior arrangements.

I don't know about the other schools, but I asked UofT directly and they said that clinical experience/volunteering would not have any influence on their admission decisions unfortunately.

Wow, that's pretty crazy! If anyone has asked Western the same thing I'd love to know what they said

My UBC application still only says "Submitted", however about a week or so ago I received an email from the Graduate advisor inquiring about a component relating to my residency (I have a sort of unique situation), so it seems like they're in the process of pre-screening, checking my documents for stuff like that.

For McGill, my status is "In Review", and U of A "Under Review".

For McMaster, I did not make it to the next round.

Just wanted to give you all an idea of where some applications at various places are at!

Thank you for the update about UBC! I was curious where they were in their process, although historically it seems like we have at least 3 more weeks before they would be sending out their very first acceptances

Hey does anyone know what GRE scores do/don't make the cut for U of A and Dal? Or if anyone has heard of successful applicants and their range of scores?

@JennSed  sent this reply when I asked about UofA GRE last month. Hope it helps!

On 2/10/2021 at 8:54 PM, JennSed said:

Hey, I wouldn't worry too much about the GRE at UofA. They don't weigh it very heavily - most people in the program right now with me did not do well on the GRE haha. I think they use it more to "weed people out" since a lot of people see that pre-req and don't end up applying there, so it reduces their applicants to people who will put in the extra effort.

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well! I noticed that not a lot of you applied to UBC this cycle, I’m just curious and am wondering why...

I nearly didn't apply to UBC despite being from BC because they pre-reqs are so specific! It's pretty crazy how particular they are, but it does give them sort of a unique way to calculate admissions GPA (if I'm not mistaken it's just GPA over those courses)

Anyone else checking their email once an hour ???

I'm sure I have new grey hairs because of this waiting game ?

YES. Checking the portal/emails everyday... multiple times a day...

Haha, me too! I always keep my email open in a tab, and so anytime it dings I rush to check it...although most times it's just disappointing things like spam or something about school or work ? it's crazy to think that sometime(s) over the next few weeks it will be something far more important than that!

Also same, I feel like I'm going a bit crazy lol

Also, I just noticed my UA application says "Under Review" now, and a few days ago it said "pre-screening"! Has anyone else's changed?

From the 2020 thread this doesn't seem to indicate anything in particular (other than it's getting closer to when they'll send out offers) as some people were accepted last year with it still in "pre-screening",, but nonetheless I thought I'd provide an update that mine changed!

    Mine changed too!

  16. Hey all! People who have received interview offers, waitlists (?) and formal rejections (me lol) to Mac should think about adding it formally on the results portal so that next year's applicants have a more streamlined way of checking the timeline.

Best of luck to everyone - getting the email this morning was a disappointing even though I knew my chances were slim to none. There's a right program for you out there, keep it up

I asked Vicki about how to prove that I took the MOOC course and she said she doesn't care about that until admissions offers have been made. It sounded to me like U of A doesn't really look at that at all for admission.

Thank you for sharing this! I was so nervous about not having finished it

Hey! I don't want to be discouraging, but the email ORPAS sent when they first got posted said "You are responsible for reporting any changes required to your academic record by February 19, 2021", so I just wanted to give you a heads up in case it might be too late. Nonetheless, it's definitely worth contacting SAM in case they can still change it!

For me when they needed to update my new grades it was done within 24 hours of them receiving my updated transcript. So, if they are still able to make corrections, then they should be able to do it quite quickly!

    Good luck :)

Thanks for the heads up! I've reached out, so we'll see - it was an error in the calculation of my 2019 average, I had checked everything else.
