Last week I got three rejections and all the emotional stimulation made it easier to read and write again, and now I've hit writer's block again in what has been an uneventful couple of days. My body craves more admissions results.

Michigan rejection here as well, friend. Taking a different tact, though, my immediate back-up plans include getting stoned and listening to a bunch of Stooges records.

    Congrats @cecsav and @cosmictones!
Also looks like some NYU notifications are going out--at least fiction and CNF. Good luck to all of you who applied there!

    Mine says that too.
Look, I've worked in higher ed admin before, my advice to everyone: Stop. Overanalyzing. Your portals.
And also: if someone got a random marketing email from a school that you didn't get, it does not mean that they made it past some inscrutable micro-round in the application cycle and you didn't. I've seen this worry expressed a couple times on Draft.
    Chilllll.

My conspiracy theory is that many programs allowed students to defer for the first time in 2020 due to covid and classes not meeting in person. So in addition to an influx of applicants due to trends around people applying to grad school when the economy is tanking, plus all the leisure time many people had for applications due to being out of work, we are also up against admitted students from 2020 who may have chosen to defer.

Hey all! Lurker on this thread for the last few days as my impatience grows. I received my first rejection from Northwestern last week but haven't received any info from my other programs.
I applied to UCIrvine, UCDavis, Mills, UMich, Brown, Boston U, and CCA San Fransisco (poetry focus). Anyone receive any word from any of the schools above?
I'm 24 and a first time applicant who is on month 11 of unemployment so the grad school app/job app anxiety has definitely been getting to me a little more this week. It's been a long year for all of us, I'm sure. My partner and I have both been on the edges of our seats waiting for the responses to start coming in! Sending love and good energy to all.

I saw that on Draft. Really big blunder on their part. That's more than just marketing. It literally says "Prepare for your arrival Autumn 2021." Can't believe they would send that out to people.

On this note, if , assuming MFA departments have allowed a lot of deferrals, is there any evidence of them accepting in the 2021 cycle but offering admission in 2022? I know some colleges do this, when they get oversubscribed and/or their algorithms get hit with a black swan event

not a conspiracy theory: this is all 100% true. many programs are allowing people to defer and take another funded year or otherwise are having funding lines suspended by their universities as part of a general budget crunch. this is happening all across the arts and humanities, even at schools with enormous and very stable endowments (Yale is only taking 3 English PhDs this year, just as one example). dark times, and ripple effects will be felt for years

Absolutely love this - so thoughtful. When I was accepted for a screenwriting MFA (ended up not going #COVID) my younger sisters filled my room with balloons. It was so cute.
