  1. I have a GRFP question and thought I'd try here first, as I don't see a more recent thread.

Has anyone transferred from one university to another as a second or third-year with a GRFP?

    TIA!

  2. Resuscitating this thread to see if anyone has up to date info on the best online sources to look for rentals. I have a good handle on the various neighborhoods, and am looking for unshared housing. TIA!

Anyone heard anything from colorado state? I emailed program head two weeks ago to ask approx date we would receive notification and got no response.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread this and my original reply was about University of Colorado!

Does anyone have information on NYU? They said decisions would be released by the end of the month?

I emailed them yesterday and was told decisions "should be out hopefully by the end of the month." That's a lot of qualifiers!

  5. Ok, I have a "tactical" questions for folks. I'm waiting on two decisions (one is an almost certain rejection from my 'reach' school). The one that I still harbor any hope for (it's an MA program, FWIW) had a very early application deadline (12/1), and I still haven't heard anything. I broke down and emailed my POI to see if they could tell me anything, even off the record and probabilistic.

They said I shouldn't assume that I wasn't going to be accepted, but that funding is an issue this cycle. They then asked me if I had been admitted anywhere else.

I don't want to be rude and not reply, especially after they replied to my questions so quickly. I have been accepted with funding, to a department I would be very happy at. Do you think giving those details is advantageous or disadvantageous? I can imagine either -- the details making them want to "compete" for me (although this seems unlikely for an MA position), or the details making it easier to reject me, as the POI would know I will land somewhere.

I'm probably overthinking, but aren't we all at this point? Thanks in advance, and best of luck to you all for some good news today!

Hey y'all. I have to get on a soap box quickly. I really hate the phrase "full funding". I have been seeing people post in the results section that they have been accepted with "full funding". There is no such thing as full funding. There could always be more funding. Could we start saying "standard funding".  I have been told to my face and in writing that a school will try to match my other offers, and one school gave me recruitment funding. Another didn't, but I know they have some that they do give to some candidates. Point is, "full" implies that you can't get more and that it is enough, which is really not true for the standard offer at most programs.

This is a great point, thank you! Can you say more about what you mean by "recruitment funding"?

    Hey y'all

Just wanted to drop by and ask if anyone is heard from Berkeley, UWisconsin-Madison or CU Boulder?

I can see an interview invite for Berkeley and Wisconsin on the results page. Has anyone else been contacted?

I'm also wondering about CU Boulder (I applied to the MA program). Has anyone else received a reply, one way or another?

I didn't apply to UO, but I would be pretty upset if I was one of the applicants. They made people spend their time, energy, and money, just to give this super late notice??

Yeah, the timing is very disappointing. They are refunding application fees, and say they will facilitate rolling applications into 2022 for anyone that wants to wait another year.

  10. In case anyone else has been waiting on Oregon -- I just received this in an email from the DGS.

"Unfortunately, due to unexpected cuts to our funding for incoming students next year, we have made the difficult decision not to admit any new students for Fall 2021."

    Quite a bummer.

  11. I just went through and read the (I think) three old threads on this topic yesterday, in preparation for the same thing.

I sent my first declination email yesterday (only one day after getting the offer). I've worked with the department chair previously, so I was mildly concerned it would be awkward. They were however very pleased to have my decision. so fast, so that they could offer the position to the next person on the wait list. Remember that there is some anxiety on the department's end as well! Good luck.

Oh then they're probable real :( I thought it was a good fit for me beuase of some professors, I also just got my Master's from NYU, although in a different field and department... which I thought might be positive, but then again maybe they don't like that.

I checked and it seemed other years they had released in March. Well I guess it's not over until we don't have the rejection... did your portal update at all?

Thanks for the kind words and best of luck to you as well!!!!

Thank you! Nothing my portal yet (NYU or anywhere else!).

    Hang in there!

Does anyone also apply to UBC and McGill? I received an offer from NYU and was waitlisted by Toronto, yet haven't heard back from the other two universities I applied to.

Congrats on the NYU offer, that's huge! Do you happen to know how many applicants they admitted to the cohort?

Hi everyone, does anyone know anything about NYU? I've suddenly seen two acceptances in the results page, my portal has not updated and according to other years it seems like it's early to release decisions, but I'm all worried now.

    Good luck to all!

I am also waiting on NYU. I emailed about a week ago and they said decisions could be announced "as late as mid-February." Honestly, NYU is a reach for me, and probably also not the best fit. Best of luck to you!

Anyone applied to U of Oregon as well?

I’m wondering when we might hear updates. Perhaps I’ll email them later.

I did! Have not heard anything, and will post here when I do. Best of luck to you!
