  1. Hi Jules, Unfortunately I'm unable to confirm whether or not you would get your return on investment because I'm in my 3rd semester of an MSW right now but I'm also 51 and looking to change careers. I also want to become a counselor and from all of the research I did prior to applying for an MSW program, I realized the only way I'm able to talk to patients one-on-one is to get an MSW and be licensed as an LCSW. Regarding the biology question, my MSW program only has Social Work classes in it. The math, science, etc. courses I were all completed when I completed my Bachelor's last year. I hope that helps! ~Megan
  2. Kev1988 I'm glad you applied to other schools. For me, it was so frustrating waiting for Fordham, it was 4 months and I talked to a few people that were Social Workers and they said it really doesn't matter where you go, as long as it's an accredited school with CSWE. I thought about it a lot and then when I found Kentucky, it just made more sense. I accepted Kentucky long in July so I wouldn't be tempted if I got accepted with Fordham. I know that sounds a little messed up LOL but Kentucky would've been around 20k more total for the program and that's a lot of loans to take out. Those are all great schools you applied to. I was thinking about Buffalo too but I think they had live classes (?) and that is something I wanted to avoid since I already have a lot on my plate. Good luck! Please reply back with the outcome!
  3. I'm not going to be very helpful on your specific question but I'd like to offer some advice. Apply to more than one school. I thought I was a shoe-in for the one that I applied to and really wanted but I didn't get in. I met all their requirements plus more! In the end, I opted for another great school but it was cheaper and I think in the long run it was the best decision for me. Good luck!
  4. I accepted the offer from University of Kentucky to start in Jan 2022. Anyone else attending? I would love to hear other thoughts and opinions on this school.
  5. I didn't get into Fordham for Spring 2022. It is probably for the best. It was my first choice of schools but I already accepted University of Kentucky back in July. I just heard from Fordham on 10/9. I say it's probably for the best because the program was quite a bit more $ than KY. Good luck to all still waiting for your decisions!
  6. Hi! I just got accepted to Univ of KY's online MSW program for Spring 2022. My first choice of schools is Fordham (I haven't heard back from them yet) but I would love to hear all about KY if you are newly accepted, already attending, if you decided not to attend, why?... Any info would help. I can't find much online in the way of reviews. Thanks in advance!
  7. JHall83 - did you end up deciding to go to Univ of KY for the MSW program? I was just accepted for Spring 2022 and would love any opinions. Thanks!
  8. Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for anyone applying/hoping to start at Fordham for January 2022. I just recently applied and I'm at the point where the people writing my recommendation letters just need to finish them. This is my first choice in schools and I'm already anxious about getting in. LOL I've been working part-time for the last 6 years on a Bachelor's in Family & Human Development from ASU and I graduate (finally!) in December. Anyone else here applying to Fordham for a January start?
  9. Thanks for the reply! I'm going to be applying to BU, Fordham, and Syracuse. I know Fordham has some live classes too even with it being an online program. I also spoke to an adviser yesterday about the MSW volunteer requirement (she isn't an adviser with the MSW program though) and she said I should look into an appeal and if I can't get anywhere, she would help. I emailed the MSW school at ASU so we'll see what happens.
  10. Hi, I apologize if this is a silly question, I'm new to the whole grad school application process. I graduate in December 2021 and would like to start an MSW program in Jan 2022. Obviously the applications are due before I graduate (for the Jan 2022 start) but is there a way this could work where I will be graduating but it isn't official yet (application-wise) or do I need to wait for the following start time of around May 2022? Thanks in advance! Megan
  11. Has anyone else run into this? I'm thinking about applying for ASU's online MSW but they have a volunteer requirement (just to apply) of 240 hours during a 6-month period. I looked at quite a few other MSW online schools and none had a volunteer requirement. It's doable but it will be a huge challenge for me to fulfill this 10 hr/week requirement on top of working full-time and life in general. Any thoughts/opinions? Thanks in advance! Megan
