  1. I put in my deposit for UIC a few weeks ago! Writing my new email signature now! Somehow in between the 10 years since I graduated now, no one has had my same last time in the public university system so I have the same email username, lol! SO glad to be going back. Finally I'll be done with school!
  2. I got taken off the waitlist for UIC and I was offered admission today! Omg, y'all! I got into my dream school in addition to the other 2 other graduate programs I got into. :D This is even better than when I got admitted into college. :D
  3. I didn't get a solid answer from the assistant dean for admissions and financial aid at UIC for SW. She told me "the waitlist can be used till August and we will work with the waitlist if someone withdraws or defers." Guess I gotta wait and see.
  4. Did you hear anything yet? I found out from Depaul where I will go if I don't get into UIC that I can accept admission and rescind if I hear back from UIC. One of my doctors went to UIC for his degree and he told me hre also got waitlisted and he found out like the week before school started. I am trying to figure out if I can go to Depaul a year or two and then transfer credits and finish at UIC. Pretty sure every grad program is tailored to the specific school though but not sure.
  5. I found out March 29th that I've been waitlisted from my dream school, UIC. They won't let me know until mid August if I am admitted and classes start August 22nd. The tentative deadlines for me to accept from my 2 other schools are in mid April and the beginning of May so I haven't figured out yet if I can wait for UIC or not.
  6. It's 1:44 PM local time and UIC said they would probably make final decisions by the end of this week. The week is pretty much ended and next week is spring break and I haven't heard if I have been denied, waitlisted or accepted! I know refreshing the page won't work.
  7. Aw, shucks. Thanks. I have been an activist and organizer for quite some time over a decade. Getting into organizing is totally learnable and there are sometimes online trainings for new organizers from organizations such as Democratic Socialists of America and the Industrial Workers of the World. I have no personal relationship to these orgs outside of I go to a Saturday wing chun class led by the IWW boxers union. In Chicago and in other cities I'm sure, oftentimes, there are trainings targeted to more marginal folks targeting folks who are queer, trans and indigenous, black or other people of color. I am not an expert at all but should you want, I can write up a short list of organizations I know about. Cheers!
  8. One idea I have for you is pretty obvious but stuff like Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights and repro justice orgs and non profits. No More Deaths has volunteering and advocay based work to aid immigrants crossing the desert. Here in Chicago we have immigrant centered social services, housing and legal services.
  9. Hi vernvarn, My career interests are pretty boring haha. Work as a hospital social worker to get hours before I become an individual therapist serving LGBTQ folks. I myself am queer and trans. I have almost a decade of agency work which I never super enjoyed for reasons such as the pay and shift work. I am really passionate about community organizing and done it 15/17 years except when I burnt out and took a break for 2 years from 2012 to 2014. I hope I can use my new mental health skills in activism too to help people with emotional first aid and help people process police brutality. I am v excited about school. My minor was a new at the time minor in LGBTQ studies.
  10. Hi, everyone! I just joined this forum today. So far, I've been accepted into Depaul for a MSW and MA in gender women's studies, Loyola for a MSW and MA in gender women's studies and I'm still waiting to hear back from UIC which is my dream school. I applied to UIC almost 3 months ago and admissions let me know last week that hopefully they will make final decisions by the end of this week. Spring break is next week for them and I'm pretty anxious since it's been so long. The application status page just says complete under review with department. I hope I hear by the end of tomorrow. I applied for 2 GAships with Depaul and I was denied from both and I did the main scholarship application for Loyola.
