I applied to New Genres at Columbia and no longer have MFA on my slideroom. I think it just means they're looking at applications. I hope, anyway. I wonder when Rutgers will let those of us in limbo (no interview, but not rejected), know the final verdict..?

Just had my UChicago interview--which I think went fairly well aside from them being squeamish about answering, what I thought, was a fairly general question about what they find compelling in contemporary art right now...it turned out that it was too personal of a question for some of them to answer? I honestly hadn't thought of it that way and felt pretty uncomfortable/embarrassed about it afterwards. Other than that, it was good. The grad student that was there was really nice too. I'll just make sure to mark that off my list of things to ask. haha.

your work is really great, trapnado!

Congrats on the Columbia interview! I wonder when New Genres people will be contacted... I'm going to try to avoid this forum for the next two weeks since I'm in freezing cold Vermont now. Getting my writing on.
-
Me too...I don't understand. I've received nothing from them. The only change I've had is that they've updated my application to finally say my official transcripts have been received. I just don't get what it all means...
-
Oh no, I'm sorry! Did they send you an email?!
-
Mine still has the MFA at the end (I applied to new genres).
-
Are you going to bring in all the work you previously submitted? I can't decide if I should bring in prints of the documentation photos for my photo and text work or just bring the actual pieces in (the small ones, anyway).
-
I'm hoping for Columbia too and UCLA. I don't blame you! Why wait when you can just ask? I bet you'll get good news!
-
Is it just me, or does it seem like interviews are coming in fairly slowly this year...?
-
I would email/call them--because I'm inpatient and take such things as a sign/good reason to contact the department.
-
I'm doing three of my interviews by skype because it would be too expensive to fly out ($400+) from a residency I'm doing (if I was at home during the time, I would've gone because flights are cheap). So, I asked the schools if that would affect my chances--all said no. For the most part schools really do understand if you can't make it.

I've gotten a ton of hits from LA too but that could be from a number of things. I also applied to interdisciplinary studio and have heard nothing from UCLA.
-
CONGRATS! I'm trying to decide that too for my Irvine interview. I think I'm going to bring the work I submitted only with maybe one or two new pieces.
-
I thought I remembered seeing that about Rutgers too. It's a weird process, I think...
-
No, interdisciplinary. Sorry, I just realized I misread/understood what you wrote, I thought you were asking in terms of who applied to what department. I thought I would clarify which one I applied to since I applied to Photo for Yale...if that makes any sense. I'm freaking exhausted so excuse my scatterbrained responses!

I applied to the MFA in Art at CalArts. Was the Rutgers email individualized or a mass email?
-
CalArts interview!!! got it by email, by the way.
-
Yes, this is referring to Irvine. I have no idea when they send out rejections, but I think a lot of schools take their time doing it.
-
Unfortunately, yes. I'm pretty sure all interviews have been scheduled. Sorry!
-
Yes last week by phone.

CONGRATS!
