  1. Yes, but....is it just me, or was it not like this before? I mean, with the extra 2016?
  2. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it--I'm sure your recommenders know that it's tough to get into grad school, especially programs like Yale. Also, I found out one of my mentors and recommenders (who went to Columbia and is super smart) applied three years in a row before he got in. I'm pretty sure everyone knows the score with this whole process. At any rate, good luck to us all as decisions near...
  3. I feel like this week is going by incredibly slow. It's grueling. Then again, I'm kind of afraid for Friday now.... >_>
  4. The wait is horrible....excruciating......
  5. I applied to Interdisciplinary studio too.
  6. Yeah, me too. Based off of last year, those of us who applied to UC-Irvine and Northwestern should hear from them by the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
  7. LOL!! That's so random!!
  8. The deadline (at least for the departments I applied for) was January 10th. Which department did you apply for? I hope we hear soon, too! Congrats Kaji and good luck!
  9. I don't think a resume matters that much when it comes to getting into graduate school. I've looked at the resumes of the people who got into Columbia, Yale, UCLA, etc. and most don't have extensive CVs. Of course, having a long list of big exhibitions/awards is definitely a plus, but not a deal breaker (in my opinion, anyway). My coworker went to Cranbrook (years ago when it was much cheaper) and loved it. She suggested it to me but it wouldn't be the right fit for my practice. Plus, I was told by another friend that their program is quite traditional in terms of it not being very interdisciplinary. I don't know if those actually attending would agree or not. My advice would be to definitely visit--it's very hard to get a feel for a school just by the website and I felt I was able to do better applications for the schools I visited (we'll see how that works out in the next month!). Also, I ended up meeting people when visiting (recent graduates, professors) who were willing to look at my work and give me advice/encouragement--which was great!
  10. Thanks and I hope your interview goes well!
  11. Wow, awesome!! When was their deadline? Are they your top choice? Where else did you apply? That's fabulous news, seriously congrats!!
  12. Evidence I will not make it to March: 1. I'm having the worst bought of insomnia lately....and drinking chamomile is making me have weird dreams about professors at the schools I've applied to.. 2. One of the profs from UChicago was literally just at an opening in Houston on Friday and, instead of saying something to him, I sat there glancing at him...chanting in my head "you will be one of my professors next year--see me!" 3. This morning I got a phone call from Pennsylvania (I did not apply to any schools there) that rang once and hung up. Obviously spam, but for a second there I was really excited/nervous and then painfully disappointed. I am losing my mind. It's official.
  13. Just submitted my last two applications. Now going straight into applying for residencies to try to keep the anxiety at bay. Good luck everyone!
  14. I agree--especially when there are other high quality UC schools to apply to.
  15. Thanks!! Nope, not a painter. I do installation, photography with text, some sound work and starting to do more with video. I already have a masters degree (in art history) so I'm very research focused, which is why I'm mostly interested in schools with strong research universities. PM me, I'll show you mine if you show me yours! Where are you applying to?
  16. I'm applying to Northwestern, Rutgers, Columbia, Yale, UCLA, UC-Irvine, SAIC, CalArts.
  17. yay! Congrats! I just found out I can do a skype interview, so my mini freak-out has subsided. A few days ago I started sifting through last year's freakout topic to see when people heard about interviews and realized UChicago would be sending out requests this week--needless to say, I haven't slept much for the past few days. I'm so relieved! EDIT--Oh wait, did you interview with them last year, dryheat? What other schools are you applying to?
  18. Thanks! Yes, they sent them out this morning. Apparently there are 31 finalists and they will choose 8.
  19. UChicago Interview!!! but....it's when I'll be in Vermont....ARGGGGGHHHH!! And the interviews are all day affairs....I guess I'll be flying out. Kicking myself for scheduling a residency in February--so freaking stupid.
  20. Depends on the school. Some are as early as mid-January, some notify you in February/early March. Some don't interview at all! Same thing in terms of how they contact you, depends on the school. Search for the schools you applied to in last year's Freakout and you can kind of get a timeline for when you might hear based off what people experienced last year.
  21. Finishing up all my applications today and I just realized I had one single, small typo in three of my letters...I somehow wrote "identity" instead of "identify." I have NO idea when that happened...I had two people review my statements and they didn't notice and I proofed it so many times. So, maybe it won't be such a big deal? I'm inclined to think it won't since I feel the rest of my application is solid. What's everyone's backup plan if you don't get in this year? Reapply next year? Are any of you applying for residencies? I'm doing VSC for two weeks in February (I know it's a weird time to do it with all the grad school stuff happening---I completely blanked on the fact that I might be asked to interview during that time or soon after--skype all the way!!). I also applied to Skowhegan, Art Omi, Millay, some local project grants. Will apply to a few others soon since deadlines are fast approaching. Trying to keep busy just in case for some unfortunate reason I don't get in anywhere, I've got other things in the pipeline.
  22. I submitted my application on Sunday so I missed all the technical problems. I noticed the clock on the admission site was still going so I thought maybe they'd extended the deadline....but it seems to be counting up...not down. I'm still waiting for my last reference to submit--I've reminded her a few times...don't know what to do now. :/
  23. Oh thanks! I hope same! Good luck to you!
  24. I did the same as you in regards to writing about my work in my SOP. I am very excited! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I closed out 2015 with a few career highs so I'm feeling confident. I'm really happy with the work I'm submitting and my statements too. Anyway, we shall see in a month or two!
  25. I am naming faculty whose work/interests are similar to my own, also faculty in other departments if I'm interested in their work (because the programs I'm applying to are interdisciplinary and encourage taking courses outside of the art department).
