  1. oh gosh, that's both exciting and so nerve wracking to hear. Do you know when they're planning to start letting applicants know? I just remembered that monday is MLK day too so I was thinking we'd start hearing back sometime in the second half of next week
  2. hi! I saw on the results page that someone got invited to UCI's virtual visit day for anthro!
  3. thank you and best of luck to both of us!! I will keep you posted Definitely hoping they start letting us know this week haha
  4. Not anthro, but I also applied to UCI in their social sciences school for Sociology! Have not heard anything yet, but looks like they have started historically this week and definitely after MLK weekend and throughout the rest of the month!
  5. thank you and congrats again!
  6. congrats and wow!! october! I interviewed a few days after christmas, so hoping to hear back something soon!
  7. Just saw someone was accepted to USC HBR - congrats!!!! If you're comfortable, would you please share when you heard back and how (email, phone, etc.)? Did you also have any interview prior to the acceptance? Congrats again!
  8. congrats!!! I did not apply to UT Houston, but was wondering when you submitted your app? It looks like some programs jumped straight into the admissions process! Congrats again!!!
  9. I think it wouldn't hurt to mention it there, especially if there are no other areas in the application that let you address low grades/test scores. One of my grad school advisors really stressed addressing my low GRE quant score in my SOP. His exact words were "don't ignore it!!" because the admissions committee will likely wonder what the heck happened, even if you display a nice upward trajectory. I ended up recently interviewing for a doctoral program and the PI brought it up. She said she was really curious about that low score, despite my solid grades and quant experience. I think it doesn't hurt to discuss what happened, but really highlight your improvement since.
  10. I saw someone got an interview email invite for UC Irvine on the results page! I'm wondering if they heard back today? ? I wasn't expecting to hear anything this week since everyone is just coming back from break.. but maybe its a possibility?
  11. I saw a lot of updates, in terms of interview invites, waitlists, rejections, etc! It was unnerving to see many of the schools I applied to, but different departments/programs, start sending interview invites or even rejections. Good to know most will start in Jan! Thank you for also sharing the reddit link!!
  12. Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well! Has anyone heard back from any schools yet? I've seen a huge influx of status updates for many schools, albeit different departments, and was curious to see if any Soc applicants have heard anything!
  13. I think it's pretty half-and-half right now for US universities. The UC's started their winter break this week and many semester schools will start break beginning next week.
  14. I think we're still super super early! I have to admit I've spent an obscene amount of time going through previous years' threads, and it looks like most programs will start interviews/notifying applications of their admissions statuses after the holiday. Looks like most are mid Jan to be specific! Hang in there!
  15. I'm in the exact same position as you, but it doesn't seem to be a deal breaker! I've asked many professors point-blank if not having publications will hurt my chances, and while I've gotten a few mixed responses, it seems like the majority of programs are very much comprehensive and take everything into consideration.
  16. thank you! here's to hoping everyone gets good news over the course of these next few week! hang in there everyone -- we GOT this!
  17. I just got an email from a professor at USC (health behavior track) letting me know that the review committee has shared my application with them. They are asking to meet after the holidays to discuss my research interest! Not sure if USC has interviews, or if this even counts as an informal one, but now we know programs are starting to look / share applications?!
  18. Have not heard anything yet, but I saw some people have started hearing back from other schools/departments (biomedical, specifically). Despite having the same Dec 1 deadline, I feel like PH sends out their interviews/acceptances much later than other fields.
  19. wow, okay! here's to hoping we all get good news asap :')
  20. wow, and was that with the Dec 1st deadline? What a quick turn-around!! Fingers crossed other programs try to do the same.
  21. I think some programs have "prospective students days" that also double as informal interviews. I've also seen in previous years' threads that some people had phone/Skype calls with their POI. Looks like this usually happens mid to end of Jan for most schools.
  22. @THS this is great news!! Can I ask how do you know that a lot of programs will be doing so?
  23. hi! I'm currently doing my masters at UCI and applying to the Soc program as well! I'll dm you!
  24. hello! I'm applying to one sociology program (UC Irvine) and 5 public health programs. My research interests are social networks and adolescent/young adult health.
