    Saw the phone call acceptances from Brown, turned off do not disturb. Hoping for good news.

    Well, GradCafe does ask if you're American or International so maybe it's mostly for folks applying to programs in the US while also knowing programs outside the US have slightly (or greatly) different systems of admissions and applications. I do wonder about size correlation though as I don't imagine a lot of Americans seek PhDs in other countries, or at least, only a minority applies to these programs.

    been getting the waiting on admissions decisions antsiness and saw that my two Montreal schools hardly have any results posts here, especially Concordia! Made me wonder either how selective they are or if nobody applies there who uses this site.

    I agree that it's tough! I went to a fancy undergraduate and while I know I have proven I can do well in graduate school, I knew PhD applications were going to be tough and what I called a "slaughter" months ago before I even finished submitting materials. One thing I remind myself of as a writer is the idea of putting your ideas and work out there even if it's met with rejection because at the end, there are areas for improvement including bluemojav's point about best fit! I think most of mine are a best fit/great fit, but I might be wrong about 2-3 of them when I reflect more upon it. I also know there are limits I place like not being able to live anywhere hot or super expensive (goodbye CA!) despite some schools in these regions being perfect fits for my research.

    rejected by UChicago (they finally updated my portal) a little sad since my current institution is a sister institution

    meanwhile, I was thinking: "oh if I don't get in anywhere this cycle, may reapply to Northwestern next year" and these emails/letters are like "not this year, for sure", so mean but c'est la vie of doctoral admissions

    Northwestern emailed me to check my portal for my admission decision and was literally another rejection letter written by someone else 😩 this is overkill

    Also super nervous and obsessively checking my email as my next three are big schools including the two ivies 🫠 but then have two québécois schools later!!

    seeing that we're both waitlisted at Illinois and rejected by Northwestern, maybe our paths will cross more or we'll be parallels, it's ok, glad to have camaraderie here on the forums

    Agreed! I keep my phone on Do Not Disturb due to working two jobs and being in grad school, so nervous about those phone calls and what this means for this week.

    saw a UChicago interview on Results, who was invited on the 20th and interviewed on the 23rd 😔 might be a soft rejection from them

    Saw the Northeastern interview and was worried for a second. Wishing whoever that is, good luck with the interview!

    I’m hopeful to hear good news from either Northwestern or UChicago next week. Not expecting news from anyone this week but still checking email, the results page, and this forum.

    All I noticed was admissions results around end of January. Haven’t heard anything yet.

    the interview posts always gut me, but I'm so nosy and check anyways >n< (also checked last year's results again for my schools and 2-3 are likely gonna release January 30th-February 1st, RIP)

    I hope whoever got the rejection from Boston College on the results page is doing okay. First posted rejection of the season for English PhD.

    I know when they state that most PhD candidates have their MAs from UIUC, I think this program is a big part of it and may be something that they deliberate a little longer knowing it's a longer commitment between the institution and you and may also be factored by the number of PhD candidates they have. I considered the MA-PhD program but I already have two master's degrees and feel ready to pursue doctoral work.

    I applied only to PhD Literature and there was no mention of MA-PhD in the waitlist email, just the PhD timeline.

    Got waitlisted by UIUC!! Excited because it is my first decision and I feel like I still have a chance.

    ahhh having dreams about admissions decisions and fingers still crossed and waiting for UIUC

    Yep! UIUC last year released on the 11th (2nd Wednesday of January) and seem to notify in early to mid January so that’s why I’m keeping my eyes peeled. Everyone else is first two weeks of February, including when I’m out of town for a conference for five days 🫠

    I'm in the same boat, bluemojav, fully expected Illinois to release today but no updates via email or portal or the results page.

    ha! I saw that too when I submitted my application and whispered, "I'll be an exception" but perhaps it is what it is, would be weird for the school to exclusively select MA students from their programs, so I still have faith in us
