MissMosquito, I feel similarly. I didn't goof on names but realize some of my SOPs were not great for certain programs so if doing another round would customize/start from ground up on each SOP.

I didn't apply here but what I've noticed with programs that do interviews, it likely indicates you're being considered likely for funding, fellowship, or admission (or all three) but certainly don't raise hopes too high as it's new and some programs have interviewed more folks than they admit, but congrats!! I'm also a first time applying to MFAs person.

Same here with these, though I saw that rejects typically hear back by mail so for all we know, rejection letters are in the mail for us ? but try to keep in mind with Pittsburgh that they only take 3 of each genre per year. Brown, yeah it's on the site and I'm not mad at them right now.

I’ve been waiting to hear back from Pitt (Columbia seems to release midMarch and Brown’s admissions stated midMarch was when decisions are due to be released) and read somewhere that rejections come in the mail?? I’m having Iowa Young Writers Workshop flashbacks.

Naropa admissions sent an email about an event but not decisions. They love a tease.

Speaking of books we read, what do you all like to read? I am a literary fiction person but also really big on memoirs, literary criticism, and queer stories. I read a lot of poetry last summer (20-30 books) so while I love it, I've been a little burned out, especially when I read a book of poetry and think "wow, so do you have no emotions??" just because it doesn't evoke anything for me. For folks who do want at least one poetry recommendation though, go read Kat Tempest's "Hold Your Own" which is a retelling of the myth of Tiresias through poems and also about the author's own self-realization. (did my 1000 word Columbia essay on this book actually and got to re-read it for the essay)

Just looked at Results again and apparently someone got a call on Friday about fellowship and acceptance at Naropa's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics ? feeling very nervous now about a) acceptance and b) fellowship/funding, especially as I was very forward with admissions about interest in teaching and it was in my personal statement and I currently teach English as a New Language

Has anyone heard from Pittsburgh about admissions decisions ? Past decisions seem to have come out between the 15th and 20th of February.

When I completed my master's in education, I ended up getting a Kindle Fire tablet (I think something that can also be a tablet and/or take files from other devices is key) to read my textbooks which helped a lot. During undergraduate when I'd read more standalone books or anthologies, I had a mixed bag of success with PDFs.

a pivot away from the above negativity What genre(s) are you applying for MFAs in and what drew you to apply to MFAs this season? Doesn't have to be super philosophical or deep. I applied only in Poetry as most nonfiction departments were heavily journalistic and I'd be more CNF than the NF they were looking for. I applied this year because I've found K-12 isn't the perfect fit for me with its structure and discord atop feeling isolated from intellectual communities which I cherish and hope to pursue a PhD in the future. Honestly realize I should've applied directly to PhDs likely but I have a heavily creative writing background and wasn't sure I'd have a strong enough PhD profile and somewhat glad I didn't as it's taken a lot of time to come around to what I would research and pursue within a PhD program (and having at least one MFA with both creative and critical components I applied to).

Rooting for everyone who applied to Hollins and if you get in, tell Tinker Mountain hello for me (,: I got snowed in when I visited for undergraduate admissions and Hollins holds a special place in my heart. I ended up going to Wesleyan University instead.

Also rejected from UMich !!! I got into Hollins for undergrad and always thought I'd apply to them for MFA but ended up not doing so (funding was unclear to me and by the time I remembered, I had finished five applications with thorough research (a summer of reading 20+ books of poetry)) good luck and here's to hoping for good funding ((:

also, curious what schools folks are still waiting to hear from: I'm waiting on: University of Pittsburgh, Poetry MFA Naropa University, Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, cross-genre MFA Brown University, Literary Arts Poetry MFA Columbia University, Poetry MFA Didn't realize Columbia wasn't well-funded until I found these forums so we'll see what happens. One of my recommenders went to the MFA program at Naropa so hoping that is in my favor atop me having a degree in K-12 education and language for any teaching fellowships.

I emailed an admissions person I’ve reached out to at Naropa about fellowships and JKS (Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics) and they said decisions are likely coming out next week.

I've been kinda lurking over the last twenty-four hours as I keep seeing people Tweet about MFA acceptances and I'm so confused thinking I wouldn't hear back from schools until late next month. Sadly, just got rejected from UMich for Poetry this afternoon. (I say afternoon because I teach 6th grade ENL and only check my personal email after work.)
