Just wondering, if anyone has any experience with this: is it possible to be engaged in a paid internship, while being in the US as a Fulbright student? I saw some interesting internships that I could find useful but most of them are paid. That would be great, if Fulbright allowed to do that it such terms? If anyone knows more about this, please, share. Thank you!

What can I say, I am a HBR geek http://blogs.hbr.org/silverman/2009/06/the-best-cover-letter.html Good example, with many great advices. Especially one under nick Martha. Hope it helps.

I live in a small community Everybody knows everybody...and I am not very keen on having everybody in my private zone aka life.

I am maybe weird, but I don't share stuff that I believe are rather private on Facebook. I had a friend who had been ALL over the world, I mean ALL over! And he never had a single album or a status saying, oh I am in Madrid, or I am in Seoul..I just believe that whomever he thought should know that he is there - they knew it. No need to tell it to eeeeeeeeeeeeveryone. And he thought me something, and that is - privacy above all. So, no, I would not post it on Facebook, simply because I think that people that should know that I am moving elsewhere for school/whatever, will know if I think I should share it with them.

International Fulbrighters Fall2011

Yes, I also understood that they are doing the bargains and discounts now. Does that mean that I basically got in? It is just which faculty will take me? -

I don't know about the budget. I am just assuming that it is so. If let's say they want three candidates from my country, the will have 33:33:33% for each of us. If I fit into those 33% as for the budget, and the faculty wants me, and their budget is 33% - good for me. If the faculty costs more - then I get the faculty that wants me and fits in those 33%. I hope I got my math right... -

Well, we do get to write couple of top preferred ones, and they ask us on the interview "why this, why that one". Off-course, you really have to know why, right? But, as I understood, IIE has a certain budget for every candidate, and now they bargain and look for discounts first for my top choices, and then if I don't fit in within the budget and/or my top choices don't seem to find me appealing as candidate, they will make a choice to place me elsewhere, where I fit in the budget and acceptance. -
I got somekinda response. Maybe you guys can help me what does this mean...I kinda understood it, but still, second opinion could be quite useful. "...Institute for International Education (IIE) just informed me that they are still waiting for responses from your top preferred institutions to determine how many fees will be charged and based on that where you will be placed. They will soon send me more information on which of your preferred options the program will be able to pursue...." I am an international student applying for USA. Opinions?

Same here. My boss knows that my SO is leaving for a PhD and he already asked me am I going to leave with him (PhD's -long distance and a long-time away relationship usually don't survive). I said NO. And I was not lying. I said that YES, I would prefer to move within my company to a country that is near his placement of studies, but WITHIN the company I emphasized. What I did not say is that while he is doing his PhD, I might do my Fulbright. In USA. Which is not even close to his PhD faculty. So, it was a white lie? I love my job. I really can see myself there in another 20 years, off-course, with a progressing role, but, I am waiting too long for things to happen for me in my company. And sometimes, I felt so close to get the position I dreamed of, and then - I kinda hoped not to get the Fulbright, because I could not chose?! But, that mindset fluffs away in two days, when I realize that the dream position is not coming any time soon. So, yeah. I lie. And shut up, suck things up and perform like there is no Fulbright.

Same for me , Ennue, I was damn quick and was not distracted, and scored 107 on TOEFL. It was my first time to take it, and the tests that I practiced with were with much smaller letters than the test I took as official. Those big letters distracted me in the very beginning, so much, that I wanted to turn off the computer and get out and cry Still, I believe that TOEFL is quite easy.

Mid-March??? I thought that candidates are notified of of the review committee's recommendations in January/February, and that the final selection is in April-June? This is the US timeline: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/overview_timeline.html Our should be pretty much similar, right? Oh, please, tell me am I in or out.... -

Does anyone even have a tip...from the US why aren't there any notifications yet? I was just about to call the guy from the Embassy here...but, I figured out - if he has any info, he will contact me. And seeing that you all wait for the same deal, makes me feel a little better. -
International Fulbrighters Fall2011
matilda replied to LongGone's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
Hello there everyone - INTERNATIONAL:) I am pretty nervous..I see that US students are getting their answers, and we, internationals, don't. Here is the process in my country: We apply till August 2010, and then if the application is good enough by the team that evaluates it in the Embassy, then you get invited to an interview. After the interview, then they pick couple of candidates "good enough" to be considered for a Fulbright. That means same as in the US, couple of "secure" ones and couple of "alternatives". So, after that, the chosen candidates are required to take TOEFL exam, submit that to IIE, and then, in late January, we get notifications, did you pass .....let's call it second round (since the first one is passing the interview). After that, the US institutions, Universities I presume and the IIE, or...I am not sure who, reevaluates the applications, and the end (got it or not) is probably in May/June. So...when are we going to hear someting:(?? -
What's the story behind your avatar or username?
matilda replied to katerific's topic in Waiting it Out
Username: From Natalie Portman's first role in Léon: The Professional . People say that I very much remind them of her. And for the avatar: I am a fitness freak. -
Same! (I got my notification last week. Accepted at this stage and moving to the in-country reviews. Is anyone making a worksheet for this year's final decision notifications?) Matilda, best of luck! Can you tell us more about the process for you applying to come to the US?
-
Is there anyone here that is from another country than USA? ...but, applied to go to the US? Just to commiserate with them, since I have not got the e-mail yet. I guess they will be notifying us little bit later than the US students
-
Can you add us, the international ones here ?We also applied for Fulbright. USA matilda

For the schools I applied, the minimum is 100 but with cut offs of 25 each section. I see that is not the case with you, but 100 is minimum. Why not retake it, and take that extra points you need?

Other: So, what do you study.... haven't you graduated? Me: I am doing double masters. That is after you do your undergraduate. Other: But, why two masters? In what? Me: Chemistry and pharmacy.
