grad school rejection = best thing ever?
new mexico replied to EscapedMonkey's topic in Waiting it Out
most people are given funding for a phd in America in all most all disciplines, unless it's a state school and one was accepted but not competitive enough for funding. -
Do not contact your school because you are antsy

i disagree. i contacted four schools i applied to a few weeks ago concerning when prospective applicants would be notified of admission decisions, and each school emailed me back a day or two later congratulating me on my acceptance. (i should ntoe that i already had a few acceptances, so i said i needed to know soon due to deadlines to accept other offers.) i'm still waiting for the official from two of them, but i'm glad i didn't wait. YMMV. -
It seems Oxford sent out notifications, or at least rejections, for the M.Phil. in Philosophical Theology. For whoever received the email, when do you receive the email???

if you're only going to be writing papers and surfing the internet, then a netbook is all one really needs. I've been using a Toshiba NB-205 for a year now, and it's absolutely wonderful. The newer version of my netbook is even better. The keyboard size is 95% full-size, 160gb hard drive, 2 gb ram, etc. Is it great for watching movies and music? Not really, but then again, I don't have much time for that anyway. I'm also considering getting an ipad for this fall since so much of what i read is articles, and i'm sick of printing out a hundred pages or more each week. HTH!!

Geez...i didn't even apply to YDS or HDS, and I keep checking this topic every other hour in anticipation for everyone!!! i can only imagine how ya'll feel!!!!
-
According to mapquest, depending on the route one takes, it's only 2.72 to 3.06 miles from BU STH to HDS. I live in NM, and I commute 72 miles (round trip) to school and back each day!!!! Ha ha. But yes, it would be really cool to live with grad cafe people that will be attending one of these schools, and finding a place that works for everyone!!! I'm glad to know someone else has done it. Thanks, LisaTO!!!

I hope that Candler is offering you funding! I turned down the offer of admission and Leadership Candler since Boston U. is a much better fit for me. Thus, there's at least ONE full ride still available!!! I hope you get it! let us know!

What an amazing acceptance!!! I hear the M.Div. program at UChicago is EXTREMELY competitive!!! Congrats!!!! I love the campus so much. I have very fond memories of being on the campus when I was younger and my father was a student there. Is this your top choice?

I rejected my alma mater last week. They were extremely rude to me for some reason, and they acted as if I should be grateful they accepted me. Which is ironic because I was accepted to much better programs. It was sad, too, since I have some good relationships in the department. Oh well. Don't feel too sad. It's your future, and you need to do what is best for yourself! Congrats on the acceptances.

Any update on University of Oxford College Admission?
new mexico replied to Fred Lau's topic in Waiting it Out
i'm waiting too. i believe applicants are notified within two weeks of that date at the latest. other than that, if you're American like me, unless we are fortunate enough to have the college pick up living expenses and college fees or get the Clarendon, it will most likely be all loans. -
thanks, everyone, for the kind words! i'm very excited. so, if anyone else gets into and decides to attend HDS or BU (i think they're like 2 miles apart or so), and does NOT want to live in on-campus housing since it's usually very expensive, maybe we can PM each other and get a few people to rent a place close to BU STH and HDS?? thoughts?

i got the scholarship!!!!

I'm sure decisions will most likely go out at the end of this week. I'm hoping for the best for everyone on here that applied!!!
-
I'm sure those living in the States will hear from them within two weeks of the decision deadline.
-
Thanks!!!! I'll keep everyone posted. I really hope HDS accepts you!! Keep us posted. We may both be living in Boston this fall

Thanks It is a flawed label, which is why i used a smiley emoticon he he. And yes, I'm beyond labels due to the baggage I must carry. Great point!! I just don't belong to any specific tradition, and I'm perfectly content with that.

Unfortunately, I disagree; however, I do not feel like delineating why I disagree as Dillskyplayer gave a wonderful response. In the words of my favorite atheist, Christopher Hitchens, "You can believe that if you wish."
-
Edit. Just thank the school for the offer of admission, but that you've decided to attend a different school.
-
I'll be hearing from BU today or tomorrow concerning funding. Keep your fingers crossed for me

Actually, I have been stressed out, but for reasons other than this application cycle. For example, I have a huge biochemistry test over the organic chemistry of glycolysis and the Krebs cycle in about 1.5 hrs
-
Wonderful! I have a friend in that program and he loves it!
-
Yeah. Oxford seems to take their sweet, precious time with everything. Hopefully, decisions will be made before the 18th for my friend. I'm currently waiting a college decision. The deadline for a college to decide was the 4th. blah
-
Well, what about you?
-
Previous -- agnostic w/ Greek Orthodox proclivities. Now -- just "Christian" -- Nicene Creed sums up the general core of my belief -- with a disdain for categories. (non-denominational...but not the denomination that goes by that name )
-
Ironically, I have not suffered from stress this application cycle.
