The LOR this writer wrote for you isn't going to matter when you interview with people at this program, they are looking at you to see if you will be a good fit for their program. So don't worry about whether or not you got an extra boost from that LOR, think about how you are going to convince them that you belong in their program at the interviews!

Indiana here as well. The visiting weekend is pretty late, I was definately hoping to have my decision made by then (was planning to make up my mind after the third of a three weekend visiting stretch on March 9th). I do like their department though, so I'll have to think about this. This assumes Yale and Michigan are rejections waiting in the wings. :/

Sadly, I still need to finish my thesis project first. Just... one... more... data set!

I don't live in Boulder, but I am considering CU for graduate school as well, and I can say based on what I have seen/heard in my research of living there, the cost of living would be much more than you are predicting. I'd even go out on a limb and say it would be impossible to find a 3br apartment within a close distance to the University for that price. A 3br in town seems to go for somewhere in the 1900 range, based on averaging the craigslist page. Some might be cheaper, but not 1300 cheap. Take a look at this thread to see what people in previous years have said. Cost of living aside, if you like the outdoors you really can't beat living in a city like Boulder.

I don't have classes on Friday, and then my only Thursday class is a core-cirriculum course so I will not be missing too much. Echoing what was previously said, the thing I will miss most is not getting to spend that time in the lab. I am in the same boat (with Michigan). I assume as people make their choices and decline acceptances we might get our chance. The first visit weekend is Feb 22-24, I am guessing we might not hear back until after then.

I got a confirmation that my application had been received and was being forwarded to the admissions committee several weeks ago, but nothing since then.

I've been scoping out the craigslits of the three potential places I could be attending grad school in the fall, and I see there are already a lot of places in Boulder listed for fall pre-lease. I won't visit the school until early March, so I wouldn't be able to start committing to anything until shortly after that. How concerned should I be about finding a place then if they are already listing places now?
