It's best to just have a talk with him and let him know, in no uncertain terms, that you are interested in clinical psych. It may just be that he is projecting his interest in perception onto you. It is not uncommon for someone to assume that others get excited by the same research that they do. I assume that you will be requesting a letter of req. from him for graduate school and it will not be worth very much if he cannot attest to not only your proficiencies but also your interests. It is much better to let him know now and acclimate to the idea then to spring it on him when you're applying to grad school. Plus, this will be good training in having difficult conversations, a skill you will need as a clinician. Apply for the position and go for it.

In my experience, which may be limited, whenever I've taken a repeated a course, even if the class as a whole is more difficult, I've found it to be a breeze. I remember taking a math course and really struggling through it, so I took it again to help my GPA, and the second time was SOOO EASY. It's not that the class changed, but that even though I struggled the first time I was way ahead of my peers in terms of my understanding. So, the classes that you will be repeating shouldn't be a problem.

You might have an easier time finding a temp job if you don't tell them that you are leaving in August. I know that it seems that you would be screwing them over, but as long as you put in your 2 weeks notice they'll be fine. Better for them to have a good employee for a mew months than to have a crappy one for longer. Also, they technically are not supposed to directly ask how long you plan to work there, they may ask round-about questions like what are your future plans but you are not obligated to tell them that, you'll be attending grad school in the fall. Just my two cents.

Easy summer job vs hard summer job before grad school?
Bison_PhD replied to neuropsych76's topic in The Lobby
First, you seem like to want the mini golf job more, but would feel as if you are shirking your responsibilities or wasting an opportunity. I say unless there is a significant pay increase with the more serious job OR you would gain some very useful experience, really useful not just practice, take the mini golf job. It seems to be what you want more (unless I'm projecting), and the rest for your brain could be helpful. That said, I'm an incoming grad student, so my advice should be taken with a salt lick. -
Tennessee, the quality of service wasn't horrible but the value is.

If you have another option than Comcast I'd take it. I recently switched from comcast to AT&tT. Technically I had 3mbps package from comcast and I have 1.5 mbps now, but my speed had actually increased. For me comcast was ~3x the price and much less reliable. If you don't have another option, then do what you have to do, but the cheapest cable modem you can find will probably work just fine.

My older brother lived with my mother until he was well over 30 and it was toxic for both of them. I know that it seems like your helping your mother by staying, but I can tell you that she will never be happy as long as her happiness is dependent on you. Both my brother and my mother are much happier and more fulfilled separately even though they thought that they were helping each other before. Please, let us help you. Suicide is not an option, and the worn out saying is true, "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem." Is there any way that you would feel comfortable telling us what area if the country you are in? At the very least we could try to research the options available in your area, and maybe one of us (since we are all around the country), could help you get to the help that you need. If you happen to be within an hour of Nashville, I will personally give you a ride to a shelter or somewhere that can provide you with help and the ability to get out of your situation.

Does savings account influence FAFSA eligibility

While I can't say exactly how much it will affect your EFC (estimated family contribution), I know that they do take that information into account when calculating it. -

How bad is a C in grad school?
Bison_PhD replied to Tall Chai Latte's topic in Coursework, Advising, and Exams
I found this description in a psychology graduate student handbook at a highly regarded public institution. Hope it helps. "Work in Graded Courses. The standards are: A+ Distinguished (rare: one student in three or four years). A Outstanding. A- Superior. B+ Typical and solid performance. B Competent, but a little below expectations. B- Weakness (a message to the student that s/he needs to perform at a higher level if a Ph.D. is the goal). C Failure (not at graduate level). IN Incomplete." -

While I don't live there yet, I am moving there in the fall and my wife and I have been apartment/house shopping for several weeks. You probably want to stay away from the corner, if you want to keep some distance from the undergrads. Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA) is definitely walking distance to the grounds and it seems to have several houses for rent that seem affordable. The websites that we have found most useful are www.brac.com , Craigslist, and CAAR.com, Good Luck.

It seems that at this point you have 2 difficult options. 1) Stay with your adviser, do what he says and get your MA with little to research to show for it, but save your social circle. OR 2) Transfer advisers, which may or may not cause waves in your social group, stay a year or more longer and get what you want out of your MA. They are both crappy options, but if it were me I'd go with #2 every time. Good luck, let us know what you decide.

I 'm surprised that I didn't see this thread earlier. First, good luck to everyone on the wait list. Second I did get off of the wait list the day before my b-day. This was my second time around and last year I was wait-listed and then rejected so I did not have much hope when I got wait-listed this year. But, people do get off the wait list and get accepted. Good Luck to you all.
