Sheesh indeed, though. As a couple ed psych people said yesterday about a suspected fake...
If you're going to mess with people on gradcafe, why not mess with the political scientists?
If you look at the applyingtograd community on LJ, there have been a few posts about this. The bottom line is that some people have done it, and the response seems to depend on how the department is feeling. You could get no response or a frosty response, but you could also get something constructive.
I think there are 6 schools on my list that I'd visit if I end up getting in.
Now that I have had some acceptances from my top choices, I am withdrawing my app from everywhere else. I don't understand why I should have an application in if I'm not even interested enough to visit the school.
For anyone waitlisted at UCSB: I will be releasing a spot today. Best of luck.
Edited to add: Mea culpa. I hear they may or may not be accepting more people. Sorry to get anyone's hopes up.
Stanford is definitely my top choice. Chicago would be on par but for the location, which is not ideal in a few different respects. But I am very likely to end up going to Stanford.
I feel so absurdly lucky to be getting great offers in a such a competitive cycle...
Mulrich, it sounds like you've yet to hear from many programs...I think there is plenty of opportunity for you to get good news!! Please keep us posted!
I hear you, ssb...my mail goes to my parents' house. So they get to see my envelopes before I do.
So far everything has come by email or phone though, so it's okay...
I can't decide whether it's better to know exactly on what day news is coming vs. have no idea. I think I'd rather know, but it makes for a slightly different type of anxiety!
Hi Dukegirl,
Yeah...unfortunately it does sound like at least one person has heard from Princeton. There was also an acceptance posted on the results board eons ago, but it was just one and it seemed suspiciously early, so it may have been a fake.
Harvard has not notified anyone yet, I am fairly sure. If the archives are any indication, they should be notifying around the first week of March, and they do not interview. At least, that's what I'm hoping!
Yeah, all but one of my schools used online recommendations. I thought it made the process a lot more straightforward. I didn't mail in paper recs to any of those schools.
Did you have any question in particular about online recs?
Ooh. This is a great thread. Sheppard Software is going to be a hit over here, I can already tell! And on Wednesday, while I'm waiting to hear from Top Choice School, I think I'll clean my room while listening to some classic hard rock...
