  1. I spent the last few months emailing management companies/landlords in the area to determine if they'd accept my husband's GA + loans as income (since getting a job from out of state is challenging), and found several. We applied for an apartment sight-unseen last week, so hopefully it's nice haha.
  2. Congrats!!! I guess you'll be needing to find those classes now, eh?
  3. Finally rejected from PSU. We're both happy that this journey is over! The letter was very nice, as every communication from Dr. G-N has been.
  4. Quite frankly, if you have around a 3.0, I wouldn't waste the application fees applying to SJSU. They have a huge applicant pool for very limited spots and require both a CSDCAS application ($100 or $45, depending on how you look at it) plus the CSUMentor application ($50), plus transcripts to both CSDCAS and the grad school at SJSU. It's a ton of money and I would only recommend it to extremely competitive applicants. I would offer similar advice regarding CSU East Bay. Portland State's post-bacc is non-competitive, though (or was in 2010 when my husband applied). It's expensive but a great program.
  5. Booo. Still two more to go!
  6. Technically waiting on PSU, but self-report of those accepted off PSU's waitlist have all been from the "very near to the top" category, while my husband was "in the middle," so we're expecting a rejection next week. It's all good though, we're excited to try a new part of the country.
  7. If you search with ASHA's Edfind, there's a portion of the school stats that says whether or not the school offers funding, and how many students accepted receive it.
  8. I work in California for a large education organization and I can attest that while we desire SLPs who are bilingual, it is in no way required and SLPs are absolutely able to get work with us if they are monolingual and/or go through a staffing agency that doesn't value bilingualism.
  9. Honestly, I firmly believe this is what got my husband into grad school this year. His stats are okay but his overall isn't amazing and the 3.0AW is enough that any of the schools in "exciting"/popular areas (big coastal cities and popular cities in between) could easily be used as an immediate reason to deny admission. So we looked at states we had never considered living in - much of the south and midwest made that list. Then we started looking at the minimum admission requirements on ASHA, and shortened the list further. Then shortened it by location (mainly, towns of under 10k people weren't going to make the list) only because we had a finite amount of funds to pay for application fees and transcripts to all these places. You see the results in my signature. By comparison, he applied to University of Washington (denied), San Diego State (denied), and CSU East Bay (waitlisted, then denied) last year.
  10. Anecdotal but my husband did his post-bacc with someone who was later accepted off the waitlist at PSU a week before classes started... She had already rented a room out of state in the city of the school she had accepted at, but I guess managed to cancel everything to attend PSU instead. So it's apparently totally possible!
  11. Even though he's already accepted at UCA, we both loved Portland so much that my husband hasn't declined the waitlist at PSU, and there's still that bit of hope in the back of our heads... As unlikely as it seems.
  12. While my husband was rejected from U of Southern Miss, I'm still not entirely convinced it is a particularly competitive school based on its stats in Edfind. That being said, in his rejection letter, USM said: "Keep in mind that there are also other regional programs accredited by ASHA (including Jackson State University, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi University for Women, the University of South Alabama, and Southeastern Louisiana University). Many of these programs do not have applicant pools as competitive as ours, and the requirements for admission tend to fluctuate significantly from year-to-year." So that list may also be something to look into - we also looked into a couple of those programs and had them on our initial list of possible to-applys as they seemed to be not especially competitive, but crossed them off for other reasons.
  13. Wow, that's quite the jackpot to hit! Congratulations.
  14. Wow, this is a really creative way of feeling out the programs! Great suggestion.
  15. Finally rejected from SJSU. Truly glad this part of the waiting game is over, and that we won't have to figure out how to survive in San Jose on just my income.
  16. Yay!! Congratulations!!
  17. Congratulations! What great news.
  18. My husband has a BA in Psychology as well. His BA GPA was only 3.31, but he completed every pre-req offered at PSU (and some classes that weren't pre-reqs but were in the major) with a 4.0. It's not clear from your post, did you apply to extended programs that give you the extra year to complete the undergrad requirements? It is my impression that, unless you are applying to extended programs that allow you an extra year to do the undergrad courses, you won't be eligible for admission to the regular 2 year programs.
  19. It was pretty quick. He applied in late August and was able to start in time for the fall quarter (late-ish September). They just wanted the transcript that had his first degree awarded.
  20. My husband emailed Nikole today asking when decisions would be made. She emailed back that they would be mailed out over the next few weeks. At least now we know he's not in!
