  1. Yes I have and I am applying for a second one
  2. I just gave them chocolates as xmas gifts too...
  3. Same here... Both my bosses know about it since I asked for LORs from one and asked one to sign my package discounts (I work in express logistics and we have employee benefits on sending packages/documents at half the price but needs his signature). And I think my teamates know too since my boss kept hinting on me leaving during meetings. I think they appreciate knowing in advance just so they are prepared to replace me once I leave for grad school and they have been supportive. Linden, what type of industry do you work in? Are your colleagues interested in the same programs? I mean, if it is an industry highly specialized on what you want to pursue in grad school, I understand the jealousy that might come out (compared to me as my team is composed of people from different backgrounds!) but nonetheless, its up to you if you want to tell them. If I were in your place, I would
  4. Does anyone here ever heard of this school especially their MA-IR program? What is their reputation? Also their MA-IR is just one year... There is no info on their website regarding employment of their grads too. I like the idea of studying in Geneva and living/working there after graduation so this part is really important to me. Is the MA-iR program worth taking? Will it be marketable to the many international governmental organizations in Geneva? Insights please
  5. Congrats YL! At least that brings in some good news in this board! Hopefully more to come!
  6. almost 3 years in business sector, previous internship in Government and some research assistantship experience from an NGO.
  7. As for me, I haven't lived outside my home country so the move (if ever) will be interesting
  8. Hey Salman, I applied to that program. Pretty new but I love the location (since I am intl and I have friends in NYC). PM me if you want to discuss further. Ciao!
  9. Nice poll...goes something beyond admissions... I voted International - Others. I wanted something geared towards diplomacy, foreign affairs and IR.
  10. I am an international student and I am planning to finance my MA thru student loans. Anyone here know how to go about it? I know of a friend who took out loans via Citibank for her MA, she's paying it back now. However, the last time I checked NYU's Intl student link, the CitiAssist Loan program has been terminated already. What loans are available to Intl students? I know you're supposed to have a US citizen as a guarantor for you to be eligible. Any thoughts?
  11. Here's what i do: 1. Eat with friends 2. Volunteer to babysit my niece 3. get a massage once a week 4. shout at least once a day (just to release the tension)
  12. You know what I had the same experience this time with the TOEFL scores (I'm an international student) which are also from ETS. I took the test last Aug 3 '08 and when I checked just this month, the school has not received my scores.ETS agreed to re-send them w/o extra charge...but then again from your experience I think I would need to double-check with the school if they indeed received this duplicate copy.
  13. I emailed a school asking if all my materials were complete...Apparently, they did not receive my TOEFL scores which I took way back in August! Ugh!
  14. But don't you think that another peculiarity of IR/policy programs is that they announce decisions pretty much later than other grad degree programs?! So I guess applicants to MPA/IR programs must exercise patience... The silence is killing me...Sometimes I just want to shout here...However, on second thought, my officemates might think I'm going crazy
  15. If I only get into one I would probably go... I only applied to four (3 submitted, last one will be submitted w/in the week)... Although if given funding it will be absolutely fantastic, I don't think I am a strong candidate for that one. 4.0s are not that easy to get from where I come from. Of the 4 I applied to, I would looooove to get into my top choice but if that does not happen (considering admission rates for that program is around 9% ) then I'd be happy to attend any of the other three.
  16. I don't think the programs I am applying to conduct phone interviews. Anyhow... I'll just put it on top of the list
  17. thank you all for your thoughts... I don't think I can leave it blank since it says include in the list the school I am applying to. I might put in just 2 schools and rank this particular one as first.
  18. I don't think so...it says list in order of preference...
  19. yes, I'm thinking of not filing it up... some of the apps I've filled up asked for the other schools which I am applying to but none asked for rankings...I'm afraid that If I list down everything and ranked it last they might give the slot to some other applicants who have them as their top choice...
  20. In one of the applications I am filling up (let's call this SCHOOL A), one question asks to list down in order of preferences the graduate schools I am applying to, including that school. However, SCHOOL A will probably my fourth choice out of the four schools I am applying to. What do I do? If I tell the truth and rank it as fourth do you think that will hurt my application? If I put SCHOOL A on top of the list, I think it will be quite obvious that I'm lying since one of the schools I'm applying to is an Ivy league school and SCHOOL A's program is relatively new compared to the other more established ones.
  21. Same here! I hate it. I try and tell my friends that its not yet sure that I'll be gone until I get an acceptance.
  22. I agree. I think the fact that being "at home" is important to you, at the end of the day after your classes are done, that's where you go home to. I am applying to graduate school abroad, not because I want to live elsewhere but I believe that opportunities are better elsewhere. If I could stay here I would, but now, I am leaning towards getting an MA abroad, working there for a while and someday come back.
  23. Hi, I'm a grad school applicant and I happen to work at DHL as well. Documents normally do not require customs forms since these are non-dutiable (unless you sent a whole lot since some countries have a maximum number of kilos of papers and more than that will be considered a parcel already). Just use the tracking number given and if its not delivered yet, call up their customer service. goodluck!
  24. Hi Younglions...I saw HEI from the internet. What's their reputation? Is it highly regarded? I think its centrally located being in Geneva and all.
