  1. I sent an e-mail off on Sunday night but have yet to hear. I'm getting particularly frustrated about it. I'd like to know whether or not I should be attending the admitted students day (funding would be a factor) and I need to respond by the end of the week. I think I'll wait it out two more days and call.
  2. I know that the majority of students who attend graduate school in DC (GT, GW, American?) work during the day and take night courses. For those of us relocating, what is the standard procedure for this? Do students line up internships before school begins for the semester? Do they wait until second semester? The second year? I feel really naive about this sort of thing.
  3. Espresso shot. I've thought about figuring out the breakdown for the rest, but I thought that would be too nerdy.
  4. The majority of acceptances I received from MPA/MPP schools came after the "crowd" had received theirs. Hope that helps. Though, I was definitely a nervous wreck while I waited.
  5. Tough decisions. Dream situation: Harvard Reality situation: Georgetown or Duke
  6. I think Chicago won't be til the following week. LBJ should notify.
  7. If you could I'd appreciate that. I went ahead and joined the group as well (its pending). Thank you for the information.
  8. Just curious, has anyone still not gotten their official GW acceptance letter? I was admitted on the 5th, but still have not received anything through the mail. Do you think I should contact the program?
  9. While it is important be be realistic and keep an even head, is may be possible that an offer may come. Stay positive.
  10. No joke. I used the same SOP for each graduate school. The only exception was the last paragraph, which I geared towards professors at the school and why I specifically wanted to attend. However, I forgot that in another paragraph I mentioned the school by name. So, while I changed the last paragraph, I forgot to change the school name mentioned earlier. We'll see what happens. I said it before, but I'm really curious to see how this works out.
  11. Haha. I've been fairly indifferent to LBJ through the whole process. It wasn't part of my original ten, but one of my referees went their and encouraged me to apply. I'm really just curious to see what happens.
  12. I wouldn't think so. I, however, gave up hope when I wrote in my Texas SOP how I was very interested in the University of Chicago.
  13. I think the answer to your question lies in what your career goals are. If you are set on a particularly defined career path you may want to pick a narrow focus. However, if you are still undecided, it may be in your best in your interest to attend a school that provides an education that is more broad.
  14. Congratulations!
  15. For those financial folks out there....anyone care to predict the dollar amount of lost productivity due to gradcafe? I love how they make that estimation for March Madness.
  16. They very well could. It does seem like notifications this year are taking slightly longer. If we don't hear today, I would wager money (not fingers  ) that we'll hear next week.
  17. I'm not going to get a decision today anyway, but I was excited the internet was broke at work today. It kept me from obsessively checking. Unfortunately, you can see the first place I headed when it came back up.
  18. Congratulations! Where to?
  19. Paradoxex22, You've successfully boosted Duke from #3 on my list to #1. Could you possibly just ask the AdComms to admit me?
  20. Thanks you two for the input! I'll be crossing my fingers for you both! Now I can go back to worrying about Duke.
  21. Just thinking quickly, here's a few things you'll want to be prepared to discuss: 1. Why you applied to their school (i.e. what things did you like about them specifically that other schools didn't offer - professors, classes, etc) 2. What your career goals are and how that school can help you achieve them 3. Anything listed on your resume - it may be useful to pick a few things off your resume or have some life experiences handy that really touch on why you chose the MPA path I'm sure others will add more.
  22. I've received an admissions e-mail (2 days ago) that had a paragraph about financial aid: I haven't received any additional financial aid e-mails. I was really banking on aid. Teach For America has a partnership w/ GT so that alumni get "special consideration for scholarships and other tuition assistance." I really thought GT was my best shot.
  23. I've been lost for half this thread. Is Friday the day they are announcing funding information? I double checked my e-mail and I didn't see a date indicated. It was general for me....

Reading is one skill (verbal) while writing is a completely different skill set (AWA). I am not at all surprised by scores like that.
