  1. I cannot agree more with you and I was in the same situation as an international student. I did my undergrad in my home country and applied for PhD directly. Apart from the obvious benefit of funding, it will save me atleast one year. 4/5 years for direct PhD as compared to 2 + 3/4 = 5/6 yrs for PhD after MS. However, for the original poster, if you just continue towards PhD at UW Madison, you won't waste that one year as you would be familiar with much of the stuff and can complete both MS and PhD within 5 years.
  2. On the other hand, if you are looking for a high-paying job in the US, you need to choose the right MS programs to apply, and do well on your GRE. Since you will apply for fall 2012, you have a lot of time.
  3. My friend has received an acceptance with funding through RAship from his POI. He got the notification by email one week ago.
  4. In European universities, the term Informatics means the same as Computer Science in US universities. So it depends on where you have applied.
  5. can't you make out from the smiley
  6. I would agree. In most universities in India like mine, the department is called "Computer Science and Engineering" .
  7. Just apply for grad school in "Theory" and find profs who work in theory. You should do great.
  8. bump for fall 2011..
  9. Got rejection email. Applied for PhD CS.
  10. I too have an updated transcript which leads to more consistency in my grades but I think its too late and won't bother the universities.
  11. I would say Cornell, because of the fellowship. More money, no TA work
  12. Got into USC for PhD in CS ! Funding through RAship
  13. I think USC has its deadline on 31st March. Look up other programs from their websites.
  14. Going by last year, we should have all the results this weekend.
  15. If you made the site in Google Sites instead of Academia, you could see which city they were from, for how much time they visited which page, and even what operating system and network they use.
  16. I am assuming a rejection from Harvard, and will pursue my other options accordingly.
  17. Probably all of us are too good for them and they can't decide which ones to take
  18. The status is the same for me as you even now. I applied for MSc. CS before the Dec 8 deadline. The documents pending status on the graduate school site is not a problem as they mention above that the transcript should be sent to them if you are selected before april 15. For this reason, I didn't send my transcript by post (only uploaded online). The status for all 3 boxes (GRE, TOEFL, Transcript) in DCS application form is unchecked for me. So I think its the same for all applicants and not something to worry about.
  19. "Theory"
  20. I called up GSAS and they told me that the letters will arrive by post only and not through email/website/phone. SEAS has the highest applicants and takes the most time but the last of these letters will be sent before March 15. Going by last year's trend acceptances were posted in February and rejections in March.
  21. They will probably send notifications in mid-March.
