Holy crapoly - just got accepted at Harvard with a VERY generous package! AGH this is the weirdest moment of my life. Harvard AND Yale AND Berkeley??? I know, I know, I'm insanely lucky - but my mother never graduated high school! I've live on 7.00 an hour for the better part of my adult life! WHAT IS THIS INSANITY????

I am dumbfounded and crying with happiness. My first choice, Tennessee, accepted me, fully funded, with three additional fellowships and a nomination for a fourth. 
 
And there's snow on the ground outside. It's like the best day of my life.

Accepted at UT Austin. I'm totally disoriented and I think I'm going to have to chug a beer. I am so happy. 

Best news possible! The director of Clemson's RCID program emailed me today with an offer of admittance with a GTAship! My first choice! 

David Tennant meant to wink at you, ceaselessly. It was just at that moment, he got a crick in his neck which prevented him from turning his beauteous gaze upon you. But he definitely meant to.    I came across a website devoted to RhetComp Ryan Gosling the other day (worth a read). Can we do RhetComp David Tennant?

I just received an email from the DGS  - accepted to University of Louisville! They're also nominating me for a university fellowship.

I also made up my mind: I'll be at Southern Illinois

Holy crap, guys. I had given up hope on OSU and then on a whim checked app status this evening and I was accepted!!! I haven't gotten an email or a phone call yet, so I don't know details, but I'm stoked. For anyone else still waiting to hear, I'm comp/rhet, so if you are too, check appstatus. So stoked!

I just got my rejection too. Tiny sliver of hope is dead .
 
I did get a funded MA offer from Delaware as well today though, which brightens my day!

Both are very strong programs. They are quite different in their focus. Technically, Illinois's program is a PhD in English with a concentration in Writing Studies. Michigan State's program is the Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures program, which has no institutional affiliation with the English department. That can be good or bad depending on your point of view. Both programs are excellent, though.

If you are really worried, call or email someone from the program and ask. If you don't already have a MA, I would recommend applying to a few funded MA programs in addition to direct-to-PhD programs. It's a good option if none of the PhD programs work out, and a strong MA career would open you up to even more possibilities in two years. 

It's great to see y'all here again! Me? I'm plugging along, reading everything that has ever been written. The fun thing is that I am still in that stage where I feel inspired by every single new thing I learn... I hope that doesn't go away any time soon!
 
Also, I recently discovered I need glasses for reading. Turns out, I have the most minor of minor eye issues. But since I read all the time, the minor eye issue led to headaches and fatigue. Now, I have my first pair of glasses and my reading is so much faster and painfree. I'm a cyborg! And an adorable one, at that.

I got a little misty browsing this document. Just last year, we were all freaking out together over letters of rec, statements of purpose, GRE's, and finances-- all while discussing such important issues as Doctor Who, Buffy, and Girls. We've debated, discussed, supported, empathized, cheered, advised, and shared. What an amazing community we have here, and now we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor in the fall!

Is anyone else having a hard time believing that it is finally April 15th? It feels like I've been in this process forever.

I have made my final decision. I will be attending The Ohio State University for my PhD in English. GO BUCKS.
 
What a difficult decision. I LOVED everyone at Riverside, and Irvine is an amazing program, but in the end OSU is the place for me.
