  1. I'm currently in a Cog Psych program and do not intend to be in academia when I finish. A lot of what I do focuses on decision making, more specifically with emphasis on the evaluation of choices involving health and nutrition. Though I am not necessarily tied to my current specialty if other research opportunities came along. I'm pretty open at this point. Like julietmercredi pointed out, I've also been told developing general statistics knowledge and quantitative skills and computer programs is key moving forward. But I will say, even though I'm told there's opportunities outside of academia from this field (and I do believe it or I wouldn't be here), I'm still pretty stressed about finding any kind of job when I finish. I do have a finance degree as well, which has the potential to be looked favorably upon if I end up in a more corporate setting. I'm still pretty early in my grad career (only a year and a half in) but I have looked for internships that would be beneficial and admit I've struggled to find some (I've looked at market research like the girl above me but just haven't found anything yet). Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
  2. It's optional to list on resumes. I like my GPA so I've always included it right under the degree in the format that UnlikelyGrad has. Employers probably will not ask if you dont include it though, but some may.
  3. Those of you that applied to BC's Masters program receive an acceptance or rejection yet? I emailed them towards the beginning of March and they said decisions would be made mid-March for the Masters program. Just wondering if those had actually gone out to anyone yet, it's getting pretty late in the process.
  4. I keep all my rejection letters. Motivation against the schools that didn't want me.
  5. Also still waiting on BC..... Same goes for Wake Forest's masters program. Though there was a post on the results page that someone was admitted like last week so not looking good for me
  6. Also planning on taking out loans but will need some kind of funding as well if I'm going to go to Villanova. I'd like to go there, it's a nice fit, but we'll see when that time comes.
  7. Accepted so far but waiting to hear on funding before making a decision.
  8. Anyone heard anything yet for the Masters program? I assume I'm not being considered for the PhD program this late in the process without being given an interview.
  9. Is it typical to send a thank e-mail after an interview weekend? Interview with a school this past weekend and am wondering if I should be e-mailing my POI and thanking her for the opportunity or should I just let them come to their decision and wait. I was told decisions would be made this week and personally feel like the weekend went well but I don't want to ruin if it's considered rude not to thank them for the invite over the weekend. At the same time I don't want to come across as desperate either. So those of you who have been on interviews do you typically send a thank you email shortly after?
  10. Always always visit. It really is that important and helps you get a feel with who you think would be better to work with and what environment you prefer.
  11. In order to give some sort of response and thank them I basically just asked when I needed to give an official answer by even though I know it's April 15th.
  12. Thanks to everyone who posted here. Very helpful for me.
  13. Fully comfortable in answering questions about myself in interviews. Even questions I may not expect, I'm pretty good at winging it. But what should I be asking them? Certainly there will be that period where they ask me if I have any questions for them. And I know I should, but a lot of the time I'm so focused on my answers that I'm not even thinking about what to ask them. So for people who have been through the interview process, what kind of questions are appropriate to ask during interview weekends? Just some general ideas would be helpful.
  14. This If I get this question I am so gonna deflect it. That's really not an appropriate question to ask in my opinion. Am I allowed to ask who their top candidate at the moment is? Didn't think so.
  15. They just let so few in. If I get in I have no doubts I could do well in the program. But they just let so few in and from what I understand they don't interview it's just accept/reject which makes me all the more uneasy.
  16. Seriously nice to hear because I've been feeling the pressure of having not heard back by now. Still think I may be a long shot for the program though.
  17. Uh.... if anything this suggests it is beneficial to have a masters when applying to PhD programs. If most have them, where does that leave the applicants that don't.
  18. Did something similar to stereopticons, excluding the whole rating system thing though. Basically just went to school website after school website to figure out which programs interested me and I fit in well with. And yes this method takes forever.
  19. Still painfully waiting to hear from BC's Masters program in Behavioral Neuroscience and WFU's Masters programs in General Psych. Doesn't seem to be any postings on the results page either Anyone know if either program interviews for their Masters programs? Or is straight accept/reject. Would prefer some kind of interview to be honest.
  20. Also applied to Social Psych program at FSU. Guess I'm getting rejected. Not too upset about it.
  21. Black pants, dress shirt with a tie, and a sports jacket are what I'm wearing to the interview. Khakis with a polo or button down shirt are what I'm wearing to any dinners. And jeans and a t-shirt are what I'm wearing to any campus tours. I'm pretty sure this is sufficient.
  22. Anyone else apply to Wake Forests masters program and heard anything? Their deadline was December 1st so I'm thinking this isn't promising. Also anyone apply to Boston College and here back?
