  1. Yep. Still waiting on 6 apps. Hopefully by next week... ...didn't want to finish that sentence. I might jinx myself.
  2. My GRE could have been better as well. I should have made sure every school had all my application materials!! None of them emailed me back and told me my app was complete - I assumed that they did that. but I think any other weak points will become obvious to me as the weeks go on.... for example - if I don't get in anywhere - maybe I didn't apply to enough backup schools??
  3. I also did quite badly on the GRE (well, mediocre - which in this distinguished forum means badly)). I was told that any thing above a 1200 was decent. I mean, for someone who is an english or math major, I think it would be more of a subject test, but for the rest of us, sheesh!! But I didn't take the psych subject test because I thought it would be a waste of time. And yeah, I wasn't able to apply to a bunch of schools, but at that time I wasn't very well versed in the history of the field. Now I would probably kick butt. I think they should add a "science" section like in the ACT. ( that was my best scored section on that test) The biggest problem I have with ETS is not only do you have to pay through the nose for taking the test, for the book, and for the class(which i didn't take), but also for copies of test results. I mean, make it $20 for the first copy, then $5 after that or something. jeez.
  4. That's only happened to me once. I think it happened because of the stresses of getting into grad school, what I'll do if I fail to get in... But on top of that, roommate issues and falling on my butt on the ice in front of my roommate and another roommate's bf. Humiliating... But now I can laugh at it. Hysterically, but laughing nonetheless... so hopefully it won't happen again - I'm just taking one day at a time not looking much at the future(at least for these next few weeks)- trying to play games with myself, like: if I don't check my (snail)mail for today, then I get to have ice cream, if I only check my email twice today I get to read some more of a new book, if I finish my homework for this next weekend(and yeah, i'm getting way ahead in my work as a result of being completely stressed, but hey, I'm the type of person who cleans rooms when stressed) then I get to watch a movie, etc etc etc... Yay, behaviorism!!
  5. ew. mandatory in-person interview to which they don't fork out the cash?? How often does that happen?
  6. I know, or well, at least I am pretty sure CMU is done with their acceptance letters (don't take my word as gospel, but I was talking to a guy on the phone - unfortunately, I can't be considered(even though they lost my transcript), because they already pretty much finished their list of accepted people) I'm not sure about the others... Supposedly ISU is having their visit day on friday and invitation emails were given out last week. I didn't get one. The only thing that's keeping me going now is what my senior thesis advisor told me about her experience applying to grad school - she didn't get into the backups, but got into all her top choices.
  7. 43. Play The Sims. At least you get to have control over something for a few weeks!!
  8. Well, I know that when I see an email with flowery language like "Rewarding Opportunity" it means that the sender is trying to sell me something. Getting a letter about financial aid would also upset me. You kind of assume that they have your fafsa/don't need it until you're admitted.
  9. Yikes. Misattribution.... That happens to me alot with my relatives too, sonnyday. I do have a friend who is applying to the same kinds of programs I am. We talk about how the process is going with each other sometimes. The only bad thing is when they get into schools that you don't get into...
  10. So I know this isn't a cartoon, but Power Rangers!! I watched the entire 1st and 2nd seasons, but I then got disinterested... I loved the game shows on Nick. "Legends" was awesome! I also liked the format of All That(kinda like SNL for kids). Even though the later seasons were terrible.
  11. A toast to all those still in wait for their grad school in shining armor to come bounding up riding a white stallion! Yeah, one of the reasons I was so interested in I/O in the first place is it lets you do research in both a social psych way and also in a cog psych way... Borrow a couple introductory I/O textbooks and see what you may be interested in.
  12. I just wish they would have let me know it was incomplete before they sent me such a scary letter.
  13. We should make a movie about admissions while we wait for letters to come in... It would be so much more popular than the other one they have out now about people in relationships. I mean, jeez, when don't you hear about stuff like that? I could play the person who gets rejected several times.... I shouldn't have to act all that much in order for it to seem realistic.
  14. So I received an encouraging letter in the mail today: Dear.... blah, blah, blah... your admission has not been approved. The reason for denial is: Application was incomplete. INCOMPLETE????  Someone from the school emailed me awhile back and asked for my transcript. Since I already sent it in, I had a receipt that was sent from them to my school. Sure enough. It was there, so I emailed this information back, saying that they should email me back if they couldn't find it and I would send another one. ugh... now for the "why did this happen?" email... Can they reject you based on their own misplacement of your app materials??
  15. So I emailed one of my schools twice to make sure that my application was complete... My reasoning was this: the online application system told me that I forgot to input recommenders and thought that maybe no one would look at the online application without the application saying that it was complete. Well, that's confusing, but long story... I basically think, that as long as you ask if your app is complete, not about whether you got in or not or when the decision is being made, you should be okay. You're expressing interest and being thorough. Those are good things.
  16. hahaha.... Wierd Al! Totally cool. So if I don't get into grad school or get a job - I'd definitely consider being a Wierd Al groupie. or perhaps I can stick my hand inside a blender and turn it on....
  17. Did you do research with these profs??? Or did you just take a couple classes with them? Jeez!!
  18. Okay, fine. So this topic's a little cynical, a little pessimistic. (I like to call it realism ) Did you apply to any backup schools? If so, would you actually want to go to those if you did get in? I applied to three backups. One I really don't know if I want to go there...even if I did get in... Do you have a plan ready if you don't get in? I'm applying to a couple research jobs - hopefully then I can stay on track for future graduate school opportunities... What if I don't get the jobs either? I can always go back and work for McDonalds (my first job).
  19. Oh jeez.... This is bad. I am a bit superstitious, but I've been thinking about this over and over and eh, what the heck, I might as well put it up on the net where everyone can see it! Acceptances: 1 fully funded that I won't want to go to 3 partially funded Rejections: 2 If this sounds cocky, its cause I applied to 2 masters programs as well as the PhDs... so I guess I am cocky. So sue me.
  20. I was told right away by books (the one by Donald Asher) and my professors to ask if the person could write me "a good letter of recommendation." I definitely asked this of my professors, but I can totally see if you had no other choice and HAD to get a letter of rec from someone. I had to get one from someone who probably did not write me a very good letter (judging from how he disregarded my deadlines and partially screwed up my senior thesis) , but it was my only business experience. My advice to others: BEWARE the individuals who say "yes" to everything - try to figure out if they do this before you ask them for help.
  21. Only if you gave paper recs to the online rec schools.... I don't think they're updating their online forms to reflect the fact that I sent them in on paper, so the systems keep sending me automatic emails stating that I don't have my recs in.
  22. Yeah... so I'm 2/6 now.... 1/3 of my programs has started contacting people... but hey, gotta look on the bright side - maybe they don't work out the funding until later, so they give the people they contact last more funding!! yeah, i know - not very likely... but a girl can dream, right? isn't that what this whole application process is about, anyways? better end it there before it gets more introspective... darn psychology major...
  23. Uberskooper - Congratulations! Do they have a visit day coming up (at CMU)? The application system at Rice emailed me again today telling me I need to input my online recommendations.... I already sent in paper recommendations to the department. Did anyone else have to apply to schools with online recommendations?
  24. 16. Reread textbooks 17. Attempt to study for tests while actually just zoning out and thinking about whether or not you'll get accepted. 18. Listen to some REALLY REALLY LOUD classic hard rock 19. Rubik's Cube. If you're good at it, time how long it takes you to solve it blindfolded with the cube behind your back. 20. Clean your room/house. Several times.
  25. As if waiting with only rejections was bad enough, now my computer had to break.... jeez! I'm even getting rejected by my own technology! hahaha... Though now I can't check my email 5 times a day, so I guess that's good???
