  1. i haven't visited yet. but i'm planning on going to the admitted students visit on mar 23rd.. and hopefully i'll get to check out the area then. i was initially planning to commute from northwest indiana/chicagoland.. so i applied to schools within driving distance. (purdue was stretching it. lol.) right now, it looks like i might be able to move closer to wherever i decide to go. so purdue is pretty appealing at this point, since i don't have to worry about the long commute anymore, and instate tuition is way more affordable than my other options (which are non-existent at this point.. still waiting).
  2. hi everyone, i've just been admitted to purdue, and will most likely be accepting the offer. any recommendations for places to stay? like.. are there areas to avoid? or anything i should take note of while looking for an apartment? i'd appreciate any advice at all.. on the SLP program (if anyone is familiar with it), and the area in general. thanks!
  3. congratulations! that's awesome news! applying again with prereqs completed would have been a hassle. (i had to, but i'm so glad the second time proved lucky for me.) and seriously, i feel so much calmer now with one acceptance. now i won't mind if the other schools take forever, don't get back to me, or reject me. lol. i was ready to jump off a cliff (figuratively) up until this morning -- the stress was totally getting to me.
  4. I had a friend who transferred from Boston University to Wayne State University.. but this was about 6-7 years ago. I think she did her first semester at BU, and then transferred because she got married and moved to Detroit to be with her husband. But on most of the websites I've seen, they say that they can accept a maximum of 8-12 credit hours to be transferred in -- so it does seem like you have to transfer early or retake courses. I got an email from them this morning too! I'm so excited! It's my first acceptance! Does anyone think they'll be attending Purdue in the fall? I'm leaning towards it because of instate tuition.
  5. i know! i've been having sleepless nights for the last couple of days, just anticipating results.. and it sucks that none of the schools i've applied to have sent out decisions yet. and it's the end of another long week.. i can't believe i'm actually hoping that monday will come faster. waiting out this weekend is going to be miserable.
  6. how did the Northwestern open house go? for those of you who attended.. any idea when they will be sending out decisions?
  7. I hope it's a happy March indeed for all of us.. Here's hoping for good news all round!
  8. @trevs326, i didn't apply to Marquette, but you might be on to something. it's all pointing in the right direction. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! btw, i think we might hear from Purdue this Thursday, judging from the posts on the results survey regarding when results were sent out last year and the year before (i.e. first Thursday of March). and i'm pretty sure Purdue doesn't do rolling admissions -- they notify everyone on the same day. i am so nervous. i cannot wait for the end of this week, and next week. i'll stop freaking out so much if i get just one acceptance.. i'm this close to going insane!
  9. If all your application materials are in and your application is complete, I would probably give it some time before calling the schools and asking if decisions have gone out yet. (Most of the graduate secretaries aren't very helpful in my opinion. But I don't blame them. They must be super stressed this time of the year, and they're probably getting a ton of calls.) It's still only February, and you should be hearing from schools over the next few weeks.. I'm just keeping up with the results survey, and I'll probably only call the schools if it seems like everyone but me has received a decision. As far as visiting schools goes, you might want to wait for acceptances/waitlists, and then visit only those schools so that you can make an informed decision on which offer to accept.. instead of trying to visit all the schools you've applied to. This is really up to you, though. Some schools have open houses for admitted students too, and you'll probably get more information from these visits since everything will be more structured, than if you schedule a visit on your own. Personally, I haven't visited any of the schools I've applied to yet, and I live within 1-2 hours driving distance. I'm planning to visit if and when I get accepted. Hope this helps!
  10. I took one online class at Utah State University too. And I liked it. I might take one more course (Aural Rehab) in Summer depending on where I get accepted, if the school requires the course. I thought it was pretty affordable at about $247 per credit hour, for both in-state and out-of-state students. Everything is organized well. The online system worked smoothly, and my transcript was sent over to schools very quickly too. The class I took didn't have proctored exams, though. I'd much rather like to avoid looking for a proctor, since I might be travelling overseas in summer. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other affordable online programs that allow you to take timed online quizzes on Blackboard or something.
  11. Rush applicants, did any of you fill out and send in the Institutional Aid form? to apply for financial aid at Rush, their instructions say to fill out FAFSA (which i've already done) and the Institutional Aid form.. but i don't really want to do this unless i get accepted. so i'm just wondering what the rest of you did.
  12. lol. i know! just tell me already! why would i join their facebook page only to get rejected next week? i am so nervous! this is torture.
  13. that sucks.. but stay positive, you guys. it's not over yet. we're all going to get through this..
  14. congratulations! that's great news.. i'm just keeping my fingers crossed for one acceptance. good luck for the tennessee interview!
  15. oh no. now you've given me one more useless thing to do while waiting for march and decision letters. each day just seems to pass so slowly. i've only got 9 credits of classes this semester, and i don't feel like studying at all. i'm on gradcafe most of the time.. just refreshing the results page and the Speech Language Pathology thread. i need to get a life.
  16. A friend of mine spoke to Cindy Coy as well. She was told that about half of the applicants were sent invitations. And she was told that it doesn't mean that you won't get accepted if you don't get an invitation. But that just seems like such a politically correct answer to keep the rest interested. Northwestern kept people waiting till May/June last year to send rejections. I'm guessing that if you don't get an invitation, you're probably not going to get accepted -- unless everyone ahead of you declines their acceptances. What are the odds, right? I'm mentally preparing myself for a rejection from Northwestern. My friend also mentioned that the graduate secretary was rather rude to her.. so I didn't bother calling myself.
  17. Between 2010 and 2011, I heard that there was a huge increase in applications at many schools. And if now we're doubling the numbers from 2011, that scares me. It feels like I'm applying to med school or something.. everyone who's being accepted seems to have GPAs above 3.8 and equally good GRE scores too. So many applicants, and so little spots. And Rush wants to reduce their intake? Seriously?
  18. This. I just want to get into one school. I really don't want to apply all over again for the third time! Also, I wonder why Northwestern didn't send out rejection letters to those who didn't make the first cut. I almost wish they did. I don't like being in limbo. And judging from last year's results, looks like Northwestern kept a lot of people in the dark for the longest time. I think the only useful piece of information they collected on the supplemental application for Rush is our social security number for financial aid purposes. I was reading forum archives for SLP, and some people mentioned that they received an email from Rush asking for their social security number several weeks before they were accepted/waitlisted. Apparently, CSDCAS doesn't pass on this information.
  19. Someone on the results survey stated that the supplemental application email went out to a little more than 1/5th of the applicants. Anyone have more information? Rush is my top choice too.. I'm so nervous right now!
  20. I got the supplemental application email from Rush too.
  21. Remmy, I just noticed that you're applying to Governors State University and that you're also an out-of-field applicant.. did you take your prerequisites there? I was thinking of applying there, but they said they wanted applicants with undergraduate degrees in SLP, or to have taken the prereqs at GSU. And they had a boatload of prereqs, compared to other schools. By the way, your stats look impressive.. Good luck!
  22. i just checked the dates again, and "a couple of days" was an underestimate. lol. i got the email on jan 3rd, but i submitted my csdcas application on dec 11th. i'm assuming they send out that email once they get the whole application from csdcas. probably csdcas just took longer to send out your application?
  23. congratulations, allie! and happy belated birthday! do you have a top choice? is that list in your signature in order of preference, or will you be deciding after you hear from all the schools? i hope the rest of us get some good news soon too.. it's interesting how the schools are sending out acceptances so much earlier this year.
