SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants
trina replied to SJS's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Just realized that we've applied to most of the same schools. I used the CSDCAS Academic Update to add my recent transcript for Rush and St. Xavier. For Northwestern, I submitted the application late enough to be able to include my recent transcript. If you think it'll raise your GPA significantly, you might want to call the schools and ask how you can submit those transcripts. They might probably accept scanned emailed copies at this point. -
this is weird. i didn't get any email with account login information. but i got a generic email from Kelly Fox in the Office of Graduate Admission saying this: i got the email a couple of days after i submitted my CSDCAS application. and that was it, really. i haven't heard from them since. when did you get the online account information?

i didn't even know they were having an open house. hmm.. does getting an invite mean you're one step closer to getting admitted? -
audioenvy, i'm just guessing in general. i think most schools decide sometime in the first week of march. i don't know about st. xavier, though. they might take longer. come to think of it, according to an email i got from the office of graduate admission, decisions will be out only in april. i haven't visited st. xavier (or any of the other schools) yet. i figured i'd do that if and when i get accepted. i've spoken to a couple of SXU students, though. and they all had good things to say about the program and the professors.

congratulations! that's great news.. and so early too! -
tell me about it. i applied to St. Xavier as well, and i think it is the least competitive school i applied to. but i'm still not sure i'd get in there. one more month of waiting. argh. my combined GPA is about 3.5, although i have a 4.0 on post-bacc speech classes. and my GRE scores aren't too shabby. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed. oh, and theasaurus, i applied to Purdue last year without any prerequisites. (it was the only school i applied to, coz i don't have the flexibility of moving from the chicagoland area.) and was told that they only accepted 4 students without background. as opposed to about 60 students with background, out of which about 25 usually accept the offer. the program director recommended that i take post-bacc classes to increase my chances of getting in. but then again, my GPA was rather low. i think your chances are pretty good.. your stats look great!

It just never occurred to me that they'd want all the transcripts. I just assumed they wanted only the final semester transcript (probably coz CSDCAS wouldn't get those grades to them on time). So I only sent them my post-bacc transcript. And now they're missing all my other undergrad transcripts -- I got an email saying my application was incomplete. And now I'm in serious panic mode. I've no idea if they'll even consider my application if the other transcripts reach them late. Sucks.. considering all the money I spent on the Purdue application. It's a long shot for me, but still, I want them to consider my application instead of just throwing it out for missing transcripts. (Which CSDCAS already has! I hate how Purdue uses CSDCAS, but still wants us to pay an additional fee for their supplemental application, and also submit transcripts to them.) -

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone applied to Purdue. And if so, did you have all your transcripts sent to Purdue directly? (In addition to CSDCAS.) -
I took the GRE in 2010 under the old format, and from what I know, a score of 1000 was about average. I'm guessing 820 should not be too difficult to obtain. So to answer your question #1, it is not a high score. You might want to check out some GRE books for sample tests and questions to gauge where you stand. It might be easier to understand how the GRE works and how it is graded if you had access to sample tests.

i'm curious about the same too! also, i was wondering about tuition and funding opportunities. does rush offer any assistantships that cover tuition partially or wholly?

You might want to try a pre-paid service like Straight Talk. You have to buy a phone, but sometimes, they have offers and the phones come free. It's $45 a month for an unlimited plan, and there's a $30 plan as well with some limitations. It's on the Verizon network, so connectivity is awesome. And if you set it up to auto-refill every month, they'll deduct the fees from your credit card, and it's just like having a post-paid service.. Check it out here.

I know what you mean.. The longer I wait, the sadder I'm going to be if I don't get in.. Purdue just keeps getting more and more desirable everyday. (I'm interested in autism too!) I wish they'd just tell us already! And MsCongeniality, congratulations on getting into UNC! Your stats are awesome, though. =) -

So glad I found this thread! I only applied to one school, Purdue. I'm a prereq student, and I'm stuck in the Northwest Indiana area, near Hammond/Munster. I've heard it's really tough to get into Purdue, so I'm super nervous right now. Even if I do get in, it's going to be a 80min drive to school daily, I'm not even sure if this is a good idea. If I don't get in, then I've to think about what to do. Maybe finish up pre-reqs somewhere, and then apply to other schools in the area, like Rush, Northwestern and St. Xaviers. But private schools are so expensive!
