Hi YT, I haven't heard anything either. Did you see the post on the results page saying that all admits have been notified and that they're sorting out the waitlist now? I guess this person (was it you?) called and was told that if they hadn't heard yet they might be on the waitlist or might be rejected outright still. Sigh. Best of luck to everyone waiting and congrats again to the direct admits. -

I would agree that results page is a little out of control! Deep breaths everyone! That's what I tell myself. Breathing will help this whole not knowing thing go much better -

Interesting we're all sort of close together regarding interests. . I wonder if they're notifying by subfields? -

I'm actually primarily an early modernist, so I guess we're not directly in competition, which is a good thing! Female mystics and hagiography of the late medieval period is my secondary interest. However, a lot of the approaches Beckwith in particular uses I've found helpful in framing my own work. Let's just hope this all gets answered soon. This seems like such an odd way to notify, no? A bunch of rejections, some acceptances, some more rejections, a bunch of unknowns? -

Nice! I'm sure you'll have an awesome time climbing Denali this summer! I'm jealous of that trip Since Kili was so pricey, we're staying closer to home and going to climb Granite Peak in MT this summer. It isn't the highest point (obviously) in the lower 48, but it has some technical bits and is really beautiful. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Duke area doesn't have a lot of mountains (at least by Western standards) either, so I'd be really happy staying in the NW somewhere. Things will work out okay for all of us, I'm sure. -

RockDenali, congrats on the programs you got into and best of luck on remaining apps. So. . .have you climbed Denali/hale from AK? I climbed Kilimanjaro last year and definitely have Denali on the list -
Going crazy... Help
lyonessrampant replied to cquin's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I odn't think I can help you feel any better, but I'm in the same place (though with Duke and U Chicago). We're all going crazy together. I work from home, so every time my phone vibrates or I get an email, which I have constantly open and continually refresh, I jump out of my skin. Anyway, know lots of us commiserate! Best of luck to you! -

I see an admit on the results board. . .anyone want to claim that and share any details? From what I recall in the past, all admits go out about the same time. Congrats to the admits and best of luck to everyone (including me!) waiting! -
Ah to be young again Actually, my partner (who was applying for law school at the same time) didn't get in there. The only place things matched up was Chicago, but I was referred to the MA program with some funding instead of admitted to the Ph.D. In the interest of our relationship, we both turned down the place we wanted to go to be together. While I kick myself sometimes since I'd be graduating with my Ph.D. right about the time I now will be starting it, I did marry him. . .so that makes it feel all better Anyway, hope you get in. I seemed like a great program, especially for medievalists and early modernists.

Glad to know that at least I'm not alone anxiously checking my Duke Apply Yourself page. I had a nightmare last night that I got back this 20+ page PDF from Duke in which they ripped apart my SOP and writing sample and said I was unbelievably stupid on all counts. Somehow there was a prof there (probably Maureen Quilligan since she's who I want to work with) laughing at me the whole, inscrutiatingly long, awful process. They said it took this long to hear only because my application was so awful they wanted to personally destroy it Hope you hear good news soon! Hope all of us waiting do! -
Those aren't mine, but I applied to Notre Dame and was accepted back in 2007. I didn't take the offer (long story. . coulda' shoula' woulda') BUT I can tell you that I was called about this time of the month and the call included funding details. It was very generous (over $20K and $4-5K for summer work, no teaching until 2nd or 3rd year). I don't know (since I wasn't on grad cafe at the time) if the calls were staggered. The visiting weekend at that time was early March-ish, if I remember correctly. Anyway, best of luck to those of you waiting to hear!

You're probably right. Sigh I don't understand why it is taking so long. If there's time to give people feedback on their applications, shouldn't that mean decisions have already been made? -

So . . .I'm seriously planning on calling this afternoon and asking if my file is complete. I'm now thinking that something happened and it's not even being reviewed. Are there still a lot of people waiting to hear back? If so, maybe I shouldn't call. . . -

I don't believe a comment encouraging respectful discourse is being "mean" while an ad hominem attack is rather different. Besides, if this person was accepted by Kansas, I would suspect they had a reason for doing so. -

Gosh SteveNSactown. . .you don't have to be so mean, especially as you're mocking spelling when you have the word "social" misspelled in your handle. . .Even if you might have a relevant point, civility is always a good idea, I think. -

Umm. . . pretty sure the previous poster was being sarcastic, but just to give a few points of clarification (if your request for info is earnest) but I've heard the GTA isn't great. I haven't actually got full details, but I've heard it is a 2:2 load and the salary is just under $13 K a year. While the cost of living isn't high in Lawrence, that still isn't a lot of money to support 2 people (you and a kid) on. . . However, maybe you'll get more offers, and maybe you'll be eligible for some extra funding. -

Are there people there you would like to work with? Are you waiting to hear from other schools? I wouldn't make a decision one way or another until you have news back from all of your programs. I got the official notification today (about a week after the unofficial acceptance), and I'm just going to keep that in my inbox for awhile. -
Congrats Crae and Crutch!
