HARVARD!!!!
lyonessrampant replied to lyonessrampant's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Saw that too. So agonizing, you know? Of course, everyone wants to get into Harvard. . .and none of us would apply if we thought we had no chance at all, but that doesn't make getting rejected hurt any less. Oh ginormous sigh. . . Congrats to the lucky Harvard admits. . . sigh. -
A SCREEEEEEEEEAM INTO THE SILENCE

Thanks Fall-11 I'm just concerned about looking ungrateful or arrogant. I really, really do appreciate the offer, and combining the advice of you all with the reality of someone who just might get the funding I'm declining gives me the gumption to get this done. I hope everyone has a good weekend! -

Capo, I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Confronting real trauma like this certainly makes more mundane matters pale in comparison. May you find some comfort in this horrible time. -
I haven't heard anything. I tried calling the week before the deadline and for a couple weeks after the deadline with some questions, but it always went to the DGS secretary's voicemail and said something like "I'm too busy to talk to you." Not at all welcoming. . .anyway, after that, I gave up trying to contact them. Did you have any issues with multiple deadlines? All the stuff I found on the department webpage said it was due Dec 15, but then when I submitted the online app, which I did close to the due date because I wanted to keep working on things, it said that they wanted the due date for the online bit to be Nov 15. I'd already paid and mailed all supporting documents a while before (not a month before though!), so I just trusted that everything would work out. Weird. Anyway, hope we hear soon! Good luck to you and everyone waiting!

Osodulce, I'm really sorry to hear that you've had such a rough day! Five really is just beyond tolerable measure. I don't know if this will help cheer you up at all, but I'm going to contact Kansas early next week and let them know that they can give my funding and spot to someone else. I was thinking of waiting for more offers, but I know I'll take my other guaranteed offer instead. Knowing that it might help someone worry a bit less made up my mind. I'll email Monday. I sure hope it's you so that you'll have a guaranteed spot while waiting for the rest of your decisions. Best of luck -

Sorry to hear that, Awin. I hope you get good news soon from your outstanding applications. -
I'm not sure if that is the case for all late notices from Duke, Anonyme, but that was the lady I emailed. Thanks for the wel wishes MM.
-
Duke was one of my top choices too. I emailed the DGS since I didn't get my answer for a long time. I was close I guess but still didn't get in. Maybe same reasoning for Brown, though I'm not that great of a fit at Brown with my research interests. Anyway, long story short is to contact the DGS at Duke for English. Her name is Kathy Pomeineds. . . Or something, not sure about that last name.

I would also like to be optimistic, but I want to go to UC too badly to keep sustaining hope that will inevitably be crushed. Oh well. . . hope it is:) Good luck to all of us waiting! -
Also grateful they notified everyone the same day. I wish other schools would follow Brown's example. . .

Grad sec in English dept said formal notifications early March and that he couldn't tell me more than that. I'm counting it as a rejection. I don't understand why admits can be told but not everyone else. -

Oh, I forgot to add that the email said official decisions will be mailed at the end of the first week in March. -
Also didn't make the cut Anyone who did get in want to volunteer info? I'll admit that this was a lot of wishful thinking on my part because my interests don't align with the other early modernists at Brown, but I wanted to give it a shot because, well, it's Brown. Congrats to you lucky 16 who got offers!

SO I emailed the DGS and she said no official offers have been made, though some departments have made unofficial offers. Not a lot of help. . . -

yeah I was offered a fellowship for 1 semester and TA for the 2nd. Total funding for 6 years. I'm an early modernist. There wasn't word on summer funding, but I'll ask later. I'm pretty excited about the program and will definitely have questions for you. Thanks! -
True dat!

I got my acceptance email Monday. I thought I posted here. Let me know if you have questions. -
AAARRGGHHH!!!! SOOOOO nervous now. At least we'll know if we don't get contacted, we're not admitted or waitlisted. . .oh please, oh please, oh please!!!! Good luck to all of us!!! Edited to add: Why couldn't they email us all today if they knew? Here ensues grinding and gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands. . .
-
I also got that email saying that we would be notified by email once decisions had been made. I wouldn't read this to preclude phone calls, though, as a lot of programs call informally and email informally long before the actual Graduate Department contacts applicants. I really, really hope they notify tomorrow and let us escape this anxiety. That Duke wait was killer. . .
-
So did everyone see the post on the results page about Brown having decided? It says that they'll be making 15 or 16 offers (can't remember which) for an incoming cohort of 6. Since we've seen only MA admits, which is a totally different program from the Ph.D., I would guess that if this intel is correct, people who get admitted/waitlisted will hear tomorrow. I AM SO NERVOUS!!!!!
-
I just saw an admit. While I'd love it if it were me, it isn't, but does the lucky person who got the admit wish to share? Congrats!
-
Also anxious for Brown. I would think they might notify tomorrow. . .haven't there been a rash of notifications on Fridays? I'm just so ready for this whole process to be over. Good luck to all of us waiting!
