Ah I loved An American Tragedy, though I believe our edition was closer to 900 pages! I also loved Sister Carrie, also by Dreiser. I can however add to this list the obligatory Lord of the Flies and a Kathy Acker novel called Pussy: King of the Pirates.

btw caitlee that's interesting because i asked when i'd be hearing and she flat out told me her decision. but she also said she had checked with the admission committee which she was not a part of. so maybe she didn't check for you, or maybe there is still hope!!

Hi guys, the DGS said I wasn't offered admission, and from what I gather, notifications have gone out to accepted/waitlisted. Rejections will be by mail. Gah. 3 rejects and a waitlist for me. 7 to go!

I just got a rejection from the grad coordinator, in response to an email I sent. She said they're in the process of sending decisions this week. From what I infer it's either waitlist or rejection from here on out

I can't claim that one but my bf just got an email acceptance. It has a first year 0 teaching fellowship so could be an early notice.

i'm 19th century british and american and feminist theory. i'm happy with the notification, but i do have a bunch of schools i'd prefer to attend that haven't made a peep yet! time will tell...

SilentG, I don't believe the system will ever indicate a decision. I had a problem with getting an id/password since I had been in the syste from when I applied to the MA 2 yrs ago. When I contacted the grad school they confirmed all my materials were there and said they didn't know how to fix the problem but that it didn't matter since the system was only used to track materials.

cquin, did you hear anything about the PhD? this is excruciating. my inbox is perpetually empty.

I got into the MA there back in 09 but it wasnt fully funded. When I got my call the POI told me how good of a fit I was. I've now applied to the PhD, and it's one of my top choices. Eek. Good luck, cquin.

During my last application round I got such a call at 9:30am. It woke me up and I was probably still half asleep so I couldn't talk anyway, which was a good thing!

Maybe they had a ton of applicants and needed to get rid of some earlier?? Idk, but I haven't heard much from any schools besides not getting a TA interview at umass, which was my last choice, and waiting for a letter/telegram/noise from stony brook. I'm most curious about what's going on over at Maryland though..,
