@buffalowizard: Thanks so much, those were some really helpful links man! I'll definitely let you know if I decide to join CSU. In the mean time can you tell me how's Fort Collins and Colorado for that matter in terms of internships for software folks? Are there software offices in and around FoCo?
  10. I feel I am much more affected emotionally by rejections than by acceptances. I was really happy when I got my admits but when the rejection mails came, it felt like I got stabbed in the stomach! Maybe sometimes you get so much attached to a school or the work of a professor who interviewed you that anything other than acceptance just breaks your heart.
  11. I just don't understand what they are doing, they surely won't admit just 6-7 students, right?
  12. Anyone who still hasn't heard anything from Indiana CS? I have seen a few with funded offers and lot getting rejected, but nothing for me. Anyone in the same boat as me?

    Bounce!!!!
  15. I have two funded offers right now and have been waitlisted by multiple schools. My big dilemma is, if I accept any one of the offer now and get an admit off the waitlist at one of my top programs post April 15th, can I decline the offer I accepted before and accept the new offer? Any idea?

One more thing, are there any big software firm offices at Columbia or SC for that matter? Or how far is Columbia from the nearest industrial belt? I know there's one at NC and I ask this as I plan to apply for internships during summer and full time positions after doing my PhD? So, how's the location industry wise?

@tuckerma: Thanks for such a wonderful description of the place! I can really see myself living at Columbia now. But you forgot one thing, is my $1500 good enough for a month there?

Bumping this thread up as I might join USC this fall for my PhD. How is the city in general? Is it like a urban place or a college town of sorts? I am an international student, so is there any specific location foreign students prefer to live in general and how is the rent like? Are there hangouts, clubs and diners in the city and maybe Indian restaurants? And most importantly, the $1500 monthly stipend I have been offered, will that be good enough for me to survive there?

Bumping this thread up as I might join CSU this fall for my PhD. How is the city in general? Is it like a urban place like Denver or a college town of sorts? I am an international student, so is there any specific location, foreign students prefer to live in general and how is the rent like? Are there hangouts, clubs and diners in the city and maybe Indian restaurants? And most importantly, the $1700 monthly stipend I have been offered, will that be good enough for me to survive there?
  20. @phd13: Its a school relatively small in size but with a heavy emphasis on research. And because of its size, its very competitive as well and is quite picky about whom they admit. And the most of the professors there, at least in my field, are world renowned researchers, so working under them should be fun! Overall, a very good school with a great PhD Program and a great record of graduate PhD students! Congrats and good luck!
  21. I saw there was a burst of admits from Indiana yesterday, and a lot of international students got accepted with guaranteed funding for four years. Is that it? They won't accept anyone else? If anyone has any idea please let me know.
  22. I completed my application to USF CSE Dept almost 4 months back with everything done, but they mailed me almost 1.5 months back that they don't have one of my recommendation letters. On my request my professor sent his letter again the next day but till date they are saying they haven't received it although on their website it clearly shows they did, not once but TWICE! And they weren't even apologetic about it and stopped answering to my mails altogether. So, I mailed the Director of Graduate Studies there last week, he apologized and said they are having major issues with the system at the moment. Just shows you how pathetic the state of the school is, thank god I have other funded offers now, I am in no way going there!
  23. @detante: Congrats! Is your focus area purely Robotics or Vision related as well? And did the admit come with funding offer?
  24. Anyone got a decision from Virginia Tech ECE?
  25. @phd13: Congrats for ND! Actually my case is different for ND, a professor who works on a field completely different to mine interviewed me and gave me stuff to read up after it. IU and VT I don't know when I will hear from them. BTW what's your focus area?
