  1. 11Q13- Unfortunately I do not have any additional suggestions for you, but I do have a question. Are you applying to the Religion department at Toronto or the ThD program jointly conferred by TST and Toronto? I ask because I too am interested in applying to Toronto, but just saw on the TST homepage that they are restructuring the program and are only accepting applications for deferred admission. Wondering if you know anything more about this?
  2. I highly recommend the Manhattan GRE online practice tests. I think you can buy a 6-pack for $30, or if you buy one of their test prep books you get 6 online practice tests for free. They are the practice tests I took that most closely simulated the actually GRE in terms of timing, difficulty level, etc. I believe it's manhattangre.com.
  3. I took the test on Monday, Jan. 31. On Thurs, Feb.8 on the mygre.com website it said my scores were reported to the schools I requested that day. My scores were posted on mygre.com yesterday, Weds, Feb.15. I still haven't received my scores by mail.
  4. If you are weak in math, I HIGHLY recommend the Manhattan GRE books. There are more of them so they are more expensive than buying a one volume book like Kaplan. But I am horrible at math and they have helped me a TON so far. I don't know about my score as I don't take the GRE til later this month, but my scores in practice tests have gone way up since using them. Buy them on Amazon and you'll get them for about half off. And then you could probably even re-sell them later to make some of your money back! Also, the online practice tests come with the purchase of a book and they have been very helpful for me as well.
  5. I am doing prep right now to take the GRE at the end of the month. I was just wondering if anyone would share what the topic was for the Issue essay they had to write about on the test was? I'm looking through all of the possible topics on the GRE website, but just curious which ones people actually got. (By the way, I have no idea if it's against the GRE rules to share this information, so if it is, please forgive my ignorance in asking.)
  6. I currently attend Gordon-Conwell in Charlotte, NC (extension campus) and absolutely love it. My interests are more academic as well, although the Charlotte campus is definitely more ministry focused. I just happened to live in Charlotte, which is why I am doing the Masters here. I think the South Hamilton campus has more students who are academically driven. If you look at the GCTS staff bios you'll see that a lot of GCTS profs actually went to Gordon in South Hamilton and then went on for further study and came back to teach. Many went to Harvard for phd after their Masters at GCTS. If you go into the masters there with academic/phd pursuits in mind I think it could be a great place for you. They have tracks that are more academic in interest and if you know up front that's what you want to do, you can customize your education towards the end goals you have in mind. Plus, as others have mentioned, GCTS is part of the Boston consortium and you can take classes at Harvard. As far as finances go, I have several scholarships in Charlotte that make it affordable, but I'm not sure what exists up north. Good luck!
  7. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Much of my correspondence so far has been over email and I suspect students who don't know me won't put in writing what they may say in person. I will definitely try to engage some folks at SBL about this.
  8. I think this is great advice, but so far I am getting only positive answers from students about their supervisors. I feel like students who are willing to talk with me about their experience, but don't know me personally, are reluctant to say anything negative about their supervisor. Are there any specific questions you recommend asking that might give them an easy way to be honest about what it's like working with their supervisor?
