What GRE cutoff scores are you aware of?
We regret to inform you replied to We regret to inform you's question in Questions and Answers
That's the highest i've ever heard. -
I hope i hear good news tomorrow so that i have a reason to remember february 29th as a day that permanently altered the course of my life. Realistically, it'll probably just be another day of silence.
-
i applied to ASU but in a different department. I have also heard nothing. I'd say that's not a great sign at this point. My guess, at least for my department, is that they wait to send out rejections once all offers have been accepted. So I'd guess that since i haven't heard anything yet that i'm either waitlisted or rejected but that i won't know for a while. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

i sent out an email two weeks ago inquiring about when decisions will be made. Last week I get an email from the department head saying that decisions haven't yet been made and that they will go out as soon as the funding situation is finalized. He told me to expect something by the end of last week. He hasn't yet replied. When do you think would be a fair time to email him back? I was thinking this friday or next monday.

What will you do with your Summer?
We regret to inform you replied to sansao's topic in Waiting it Out
I'll be finishing up my masters thesis. After that's done, i'll go back to my hometown and spend a month or two at my parents place until i move. While i'm there i'll probably exercise a lot and play some video games i've been meaning to get into. I probably won't bother doing anything school related. I'd prefer to give my brain a rest before i start it all up again. -
oh god.

A few years ago when i was applying for the masters program i am currently wrapping up I applied to several schools and a couple of them made no effort to notify me at all, nor did they have a website where i could check my status. I had to finally call these places up in late april (later than the april 15 deadline) to get a decision. I consider this to be incredibly rude considering each application takes a lot of time and money on our part. The least they could do is have the department secretary send out a generic email saying "We appreciate your interest in our program. Unfortunately we've had to turn down several qualified applicants such as yourself. We wish you the best of luck." That's a whole lot better than NOTHING. Also, I'd like to add that i believe rejection letters should be polite. The one rejection letter I received this week included one particular sentence that i found to be kind of mean: "Your academic record was not competitive with that of other applicants to this department." Did they really have to rub it in and tell me that not only did I not get accepted but that I didn't even have a shot? That's kind of cruel.

Ugh. one program told me i'd receive a reply by the end of this week... and nothing.

What if I don't get in anywhere???

I agree with the poster above me. exercise works wonders. -
i have 3 schools i'm still waiting on. one i should hear from tomorrow according to the department head. that could seriously make my day. and if that is a funded acceptance, than i probably won't be worried so much about the other 2, even though they are possibly better programs. i'd be extremely happy going to the one i should hear from tomorrow.
-
hang in there.
-
today i finally heard back from somewhere. a funded acceptance to my safety school and a rejection from my dream school.
-
my rollercoaster of good and bad news continues! my safety school has offered me funding! now at least i have somewhere i can DEFINITELY go! Now i'm expecting a rejection from another school within minutes....
-
Thanks. Unfortunately, just a few minutes ago I got a rejection from my dream school.
-
I got my first notification today. An acceptance to a masters program at my safety school. No word yet on funding though. Still, it's nice to get things rolling with a positive response.
-
I'm sure they get lots of eager phone calls and emails this time of year every year. I don't think calling once is going to anger anybody. However, if you've told yourself you will only call just once, then I'd wait til the end of the week. Everybody's happiest on fridays, right? That's probably a good day to call.
-
If you're going to try to find out, i would call instead of emailing. That way you know you'll get an actual response.
-
i think you should relax and just wait it out.
-
Nothing here. But I did send an email to the head of one program last week and he told me today to expect a decision by the end of this week.
-
several possibilities: 1. they send out their decisions in waves. 2. you are waitlisted and they won't bother to tell you one way or the other until all previous acceptances offers made have been replied to. 3. what no one ever wants to think: your application is incomplete or got lost.
-
I'm sure this has been suggested before, so maybe someone can confirm or deny this is how it works for schools that trickle out their decisions over time: Say a school gets 30 applications and they have 10 spots. They first order all the applications in the order they would like to accept them. #1 is the best, #30 is the worst. They then send out emails to #1 and #30. One acceptance, one rejection. Then they email #2 and #29 - one acceptance and one rejection... etc. So as they slowly work their way towards the middle of the list they will have gotten back some responses from their acceptance offers. So if someone declines an acceptance they then have a spot for person #11 before they get to that person on the list. I certainly hope this is roughly how it's done. My dream school is trickling out decisions both positive and negative and i haven't heard anything yet. So hopefully i'm at least somewhere in the middle and still have a shot.

Anticipating many rejections

21 schools?!? i'm curious, how much money did you end up spending? I applied to 5 schools and i probably spent around $500. -
Anticipating many rejections

FWIW, i just called my top choice and they said that decisions are slowly coming out a few at a time. And I was told that pertains to both acceptances and rejections. Of course every school and department is going to be different. Still, it's nice to know that the wheels are in motion and that not yet hearing anything does not always imply rejection. In fact, that phone call really calmed my nerves. -
What GRE cutoff scores are you aware of?

Just curious what programs we've all applied to that have listed their GRE cutoffs and what they may be. Unfortunately, none of my programs give any indication of a minimum GRE cutoff. How about yours?
