Hey there guys, So maybe I'm being completely stupid, but I was wondering if anyone knew the REAL advantages/benefits into a enrolling to an APA (American Psychological Association) accredited program compared to ones which are accredited by organizations like the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)..? Obviously, I understand the APA is the big man when it comes to psych accreditation and recognition. But I am still confused on whether there are truely negative consequences for those enrolling with out it. Is it harder to get into a PhD program or get a job or anything of the like? Any advice or comments are welcome!

Hello fellow applicant. I see you are also preparing for Fall 2012 application season, and yes I do know what you mean. I've got a fairly sound outline for my top 2 choices, 6 more to go! Bleh. In addition to SOPs, there are some schools that want things like "autobiographical essays" and "specified statements of interest"..*coughnorthwestern*. I suppose the motivation for me has been reading this forum and discovering how brilliant and well prepared people are, and encouraging me to do the same! That said, time is still on our side

Hey guys - I'm new here and starting to organize myself to apply for mental health counseling and human development MA's in Fall 2012. Just thought I would open this up to talk about the hurdles faced for us UK students when applying to US and Canadian schools! In particular, issues about funding, GRE scores, the lovely WES evaluation process, admittance rates for international students and the like! Personally, I come from an average-ranked school in London and graduated with First Class honours in psychology and criminology. Most probably applying to Columbia TC, NYU Steinhardt, McGill, U of Denver, George Washington U and Johns Hopkins. Does anyone have any experience when it comes to international applications?!

So I'm in the midst of chosing schools for fall 2012 entry - does anyone know anything about the counseling MA at GW? I only stumbled upon it by chance the other day, didn't even know it existed!
