  1. Yeah, they have a M.S.Ed. in Counseling and Mental Health Services, which is a one year track that can be extended to two years for eligibility to LPC. What are your top choices?
  2. Welcome to the (very small) club denimfan Yeah, apparently none of the MA programs get back to you before early March
  3. When I got my first acceptance, I just put "Good day!" or something inconspicuous so people could ask if they were interested But I agree, if someone wants to post details I wouldn't have a problem with it, I just tend to be more private.
  4. Yeah, medicine would probably be up there Though, I would probably have to be better at math
  5. Yeah, good idea Sarahmarie. I have looked at the results board and have noticed a couple of PhD interviews, but few MAs notifications?
  6. Thanks Cosmos. Yeah I'd say it's number 2 or 3 depending on the other offers =) Good luck with your applications, I'm sure you will hear one way or another, regardless of the system used.
  7. Well, I think it depends on the web tool the school uses. All I know is that for ApplyYourself, which is used by many many departments, underneath all the details on your application page (i.e. submission status, transcripts and LORs received, etc) appears a "Decision available: click link to view letter" or something along those lines. Hope that helps Cosmos
  8. I had to send my transcripts to WES (Word Education Services) to get them translated for a couple of the programs I applied to. But if you head to to the WES website, they give rough ideas how your percentages can be translated, so you can estimate them yourself.
  9. Two words: Microsoft Excel. It saved my life
  10. Ok well, I am applying to a completely different field at McGill, but when I had some issues around my letters, the program coordinator just gave me an email address with which my recommenders could send their letters. The only requirement was that my LOR writers had to send them via an institution email address, which is fair enough. I would ask your program coordinator for the best way forward. If you're pressed for a deadline, call the admissions office. Good luck!

    HELP

Option B, 100%. Seriously, typos like that are hardly noticeable or a big deal. I even got a formal acceptance letter from an Ivy with a couple typos. Don't sweat it
  12. Wow, really? Yeah, as soon as you get your decision send in that letter. That is ridiculous. It would take a lot less than that to piss me off. In fact, I made an appointment to to visit one of my schools (an ivey, no less) this summer and have a one-to-one with the main admissions counselor. She sat at her computer, staring the at the screen throughout the whole 15 minutes I was there and answered my questions monosillabically and with disinterest. I wasn't happy.
  13. Haha no worries =) And that's funny about the angry secretary...! I suppose it does say something about the school if the admissions assistants aren't helpful. I don't know about anyone else, but I would like to attend a school with informed, nice and helpful management employees! After all, we might be dealing with them in the future if we decide to attend the school
  14. Again, I would just explain the situation as you did here - in my experience the admissions secretaries are super nice and want us to be in good shape. Worst that can happen is that they say it can't be changed. Can't hurt, right?
  15. I definitely agree that it's worth calling admissions. Just be very nice and apologetic and itàs unlikely they will be unhelpful. I have also had some screw ups and managed to fix it this way. I even managed to get them to change the concentration of the major after I had submitted the application, they let me submit an updated SOP and everything! =)
  16. Um, well usually when they say three letters are required, it usually means that they won't review your file without a third recommendation; the adcom would probably just mark your application as 'incomplete'. That said, it's always best to check with each individual school, just to make sure.
  17. "Oh, crap" she remembered as she looked at her Outlook Calendar. "Send thank you/holiday greetings cards to LOR writers" read under reminders for today's date. But what am I supposed to write? Do I address them as "Dr.?", no, perhaps that's too formal. After all, they were my tutors for years. "Hi, David!" she pictured her top LOR writer reading the first line to a potential Christmas card; "UGH!". "That's it, I officially need to find a new hobby", she mused. "...but what about those thank you cards..?"
  18. Hey rugox, Fellow MHC applicant here As Sarahmarie already knows, there is a good book by the APA that has really detailed info on all the MHC and psychological counseling programs accredited by them - it's called Graduate Study in Psychology 2012, and you can get it on Amazon for like $17.It gives info on past applicant pools, rates of acceptance, what graduates end up doing after graduating etc. GIven, it only has APA accredited programs and not CACREP ones, but it does give an idea of what insider info on MHC programs is like generally.
  19. Well, unless the program is rolling, most PhD programs send notice for interviews in January/February time, which then take place around March?
  20. How about being able to research for up to date information, published this year or the year before, which may not be in books. It's faster, cheaper and many times more efficient to research through online journals than it is to go through books.
  21. Thanks, yellowsubmarine! =)
  22. Yeah, I've been in touch with admissions counselors at TC - I think Sarahmarie's experiences have been better than mine..when I visited the campus this summer the lady I talked to was fairly dismissive. I kind of felt like she just wanted to get rid of me, which wasn't my experience with other schools...but meh, that said, I'm not going to judge a whole program based on one person! And yes, totally up for being roomies at Columbia!
  23. Yeah, I graduated this past spring and am working/gaining voluntary experience..! I hope to gain a PhD after my MA, which is why I'm really hoping to get into an MA program at a school that also offers a PhD...fingers crossed! TC and NYU seem to be popular choices...I've noticed! =) How about you? PhD? Practice after graduation from MA? What are everyone's top choices?
  24. Yay, I'm so glad other people share my neurosis with pens . I pretty much exclusively use the BIC Z4 roller 0.7mm in black. So smooth. I can't really find them in stores anymore so I have to buy them on ebay, which I realize is fairly weird. But oh wells =)
  25. Yeah JHU's program does sounds really interesting. And you're right, Harvard's program is more developmental but that is an angle I'm interested in I suppose =) My applications are going pretty well. I've submitted all but 1 of my applications and am in the midst of filling out supplemental applications, making sure my LORs get through and all that fun stuff. Ha! I've heard lots of good things about Northwestern's program - what are your top choices?
