  1. Wisconsin, OSU, UCD, Duke, GMU (?) were the big hitters so far, I think. None of my schools have sent anything, from what I gather.
  2. Quiet again... What's your source for that?
  3. If they had 400 apps for an incoming class of 20, their admission rate likely will be between 7-10%, which doesn't seem much lower than many other (lower-ranked) schools. Berkeley and Michigan both had less in 2012... I wonder if they call internationals, though. They were meeting for the first time last week, so they could make their decisions soon!
  4. I still believe that NYU acceptances this week are possible. They said "by next week", not next week... Rationalizing.... Also, what's the last word on UCSD? They're very close to making final decisions? So that would mean Friday's a possibility? Last year, they sent out rejections on Friday, and acceptances in the following week. Hope they don't do that again this year! Last year, one of my UK schools sent out an acceptance on Jan 31, also, so that would be another possibility, though funding awards might be separate :-(... I can't even listen to a talk without compulsively checking my email and gradcafe anymore... Any dinner I have, everything... Might have to start leaving my phone at home/bringing my crappy, old, non internet phone...
  5. OSU and Wisc are really bringing it on today, bright red in the results! Sorry for everyone who heard officially!
  6. I'm guessing that at the top, schools are competing for many of the same students with very similar funding packages. If you go down a bit, you end up with great schools with very high variations in funding, so that schools with good funding policies will have a higher yield, I'm guessing.
  7. In 2012, Princeton had a 54% yield, according to the spreadsheet. Stanford apparently admitted 32 for a class of 14, so 40 for 20, assuming yield hasn't gone up a lot, seems very plausible!
  8. NYU sent out on Friday, Feb 1 last year, so I'm guessing/hoping it will send acceptances on Friday, Jan 31 this year. I have recently been watching lots of trashy TV as a distraction, like "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!", "Life UneXpected" etc. Listening to the SoU address right now, and also Chancellor Merkel's "State of the Nation".
  9. Honestly, while you may have had good intention, you come off very patronizing to me, and not in a good way. Just because something worked for you doesn't mean it has to work for everyone else or that people who choose to do things differently are somehow inferior to you/your experience. I also hate all this age crap (it's been called reverse ageism). Why shouldn't some people be able to figure out what they want at an earlier age? And what about all those people that have kids when they're young/do an apprenticeship and basically have their paths figured out? You're kind of discounting everyone else's experience, and it almost comes off like you're trying to make yourself feel better, especially with your follow-up about how bad it is for you to be beat out by younger people.
  10. Anyone willing to claim UCSD? My app still says "Under Review". Might have been a personal email, no details on the results page.
  11. Deleted, because typing on my phone is hard.
  12. New materialism in gender studies. I hate gender studies as a discipline, find New materialism crazy boring. The guy giving the talk also basically only reads out quotes, and then translates them. Since his tone of voice never changes, I also do not know when he might actually be explaining his own opinion. And, BTW, he only read two books on the subject so far...
  13. Congrats everyone for your amazing acceptances. I'm sitting n a crazy boring lecture. Getting an acceptance would ddfinitely sweeten the deal... No pressure to for any of my schools, though!
  14. I heard that Stata vs R vs SAS is extremely irrelevant. What is relevant, from what I gather, however, is quant/qual/formal methods.
  15. Sorry to hear. Mind sharing which program that is? Maybe I missed it? Don't loose hope yet, 1/13 isn't much!
  16. I'm starting to second-guess every part of my application. Did I shoot myself in the foot by having both a regional and a substantive specialization? Or possibly by not fitting squarely within either IR or CP? Was my SOP too future-oriented and too light on past accomplishments? Should I have added a fit paragraph, instead of ending most paragraphs with a fit sentence? etc. etc.
  17. Thank you! Who will we hear from next? I vote NYU and Pittsburgh this week! Still not giving up on Stanford.
  18. What happened to everyone? Eerily quiet... Just got my first acceptance, from a UK school, albeit without funding info as of now...
  19. First, you are already accepted at a great program. Secondly, there's definitely still a chance. I wouldn't count myself out until you've seen a rejection. It's possible they haven't gotten to you yet, it's possible you're on some sort of internal waitlist etc. What's your subfield?
  20. No word from UCSD for me, either! I say it's either a troll, or some lucky person who was a priority admit. I practically got a heart attack last night when seeing the result...
  21. Congrats to the Madison people, it's an amazing program. Of course, also congrats to everyone else who heard today, I am sure all of the acceptances were well deserved! Those (like me...) still waiting, don't give up hope! The cycle has only just begun!
  22. Congrats, you're crushing this cycle so far!
  23. Nope, did not apply to UNC, or any school that traditionally releases decisions in January, so I'm kind of grasping at straws, hoping at least one of my schools is very early this year, and I get accepted to exactly this school. You applied there, I presume. One notification isn't much yet, so I wouldn't lose hope yet, especially bc noone claimed it yet, and funding wasn't included. Might just take them another couple of days to hammer out their final list, depending on grad school funding! Good luck everyone!
  24. Maybe it's just about the amount? I.e. they fund all their admits, but did not give the info in the acceptance as to amount, TA commitments etc.? The website says this, though: "A sizable number of fellowships and assistantships are available for graduate students in the Department of Political Science. The number of these awarded directly by the department varies somewhat from year to year, but recently funds have been sufficient to provide support for the vast majority of graduate students. These departmental awards require service duties that range from ten to fifteen hours per week during the nine-month academic year." Doesn't seem to be a full funding commitment...
  25. Anyone willing to claim UNC? How come all these school's funding info comes later? I thought most schools funded everyone???
