  1. UCLA and Berkeley both have trouble funding internationals, from what I understand. Not as severe as UCSD, but because they're state schools, it's more difficult. They might not have sent out notifications to internationals yet, as well?
  2. Congrats, MIT and Duke people! On second thought, MIT might be spam? "told them I could take a punch and count cards in my SOP." sounds suspicious, doesn't it?
  3. A) I'm not American, but I did apply to only top-ranked program in my field. I did, however, also apply to programs in Europe, which I think I would prefer to a not-so great program in the US!
  4. Congrats everyone! Would love to live in Cali, and those UC programs are great! Ucsd today possibly?
  5. We all understand you/each other! Pulling for you!
  6. Anyone willing to claim the new Pitt acceptance? Congrats!
  7. Georgetown is a pretty good program, especially for security, I would say. Not sure how not having guaranteed funding impacts on the school. Your PoI will say that placements are good, but the Q is where the cohort ended up as a whole. Ask him if he's able to provide data on all students, ask for attrition rate etc. There's a threat on visitation weekends where Qs like these are collected.
  8. Funded or not? You should ask especially your advisor for his recent placements...
  9. Congrats to Berkeley! Still could kick myself for screwing up this application! Hope everyone hears good news from them soon.
  10. Thanks for being the one to email. Sounds promising for you for sure. Might depend on whether funding will be available etc. What's your subfield, BTW?
  11. Thanks! Do we know how they notify?
  12. A) I'm too afraid, and wanna hold on to a shriver of hope. I'm still waiting on some information that I would update my app with, and didn't wanna send two emails in a row.
  13. Congrats, loving it!
  14. I don't think anyone did specifically, though I know some of their subfields from other posts. What's yours? Mine would be Political Economy, BTW. Also haven't heard from them yet.
  15. Historically, it was about two weeks later. I thought yesterday's acceptances were from all subfields, but don't know for sure!
  16. At the same time, though, internationals might be more likely to be here in the first place, because they have less info off-line, and thus are more likely to search for such a community. Not sure which is true, though. Could also test, since most posts on the results page include status.
  17. Definitely an acceptance bias. US applicant bias I'm not sure about, but it is possible. Definitely a bias towards higher-ranked school, as is evidenced on the forum as well, I would say. I would say that people that post there tend to be more invested in the process than the average PhD applicant, which can at least partly explain the ranking bias. There's a strong US school bias, Canadian and/or British programs are hardly mentioned. Anyone willing to test for biases using some of the real numbers available?
  18. Two years ago, I started off my cycle (MA admissions) with three rejections, one to a pretty low-ranked school (in comparison). I lost heart, then got accepted to my three top choice(s) (including the school that was consistently ranked either 1 or 2 in my field), and waitlisted and then accepted to Yale. I know it sucks, but sometimes it goes like this!
  19. I also doubt myself a lot, but the cycle is still not even close to being over. All you need is one acceptance!
  20. Congrats, Orlien!
  21. Congrats to everyone who heard good news yesterday. Those of us who didn't: Let's not despair, the cycle is still relatively young, and, as I have been reminded on here by kind people, not hearing anything at this point just means that you didn't hear anything, especially for schools that do only informal waitlists/have decisions trickle in!
  22. NYU seems to usually have two acceptance rounds, which I hadn't seen previously. Last year, there was at least one acceptance mid-February. The year before, they had two full rounds seemingly, although in each round, all acceptances went out the same day. Not sure what that means.
  23. Congrats on Chicago!
  24. Congrats on NYU everyone! Great school :-)
  25. Guess thats a no on NYU, then...
