As a German with money in EUR, can you just put your money onto one of those German pre-paid credit card things? I tend to get the best rates (haven't tried US$) when I withdraw internationally, and generally don't loose as much in ER as I would with most other forms of capital mobility..^^

For internationals even more so, I believe. Need to get a phone plan etc. as well, and dont have credit cards yet.

Anyone's guess? It seems quite elaborate for a troll, considering the info. On the other hand, if the GPA/GRE/research experience is right, I can't imagine UCSD saying it was just average (not to mention, where would that person have gotten this info from)? Anyone willing to claim? If not, I'd say it's likely it's a troll...

Last year, it released rejections before, the year before, admissions, so no discernible pattern, I think... Maybe they already released rejections, but none of us gradcae folk got any, bc we're all so awesome that we are admitted?

UCSD should be releasing soon as well, according to someone on here... NYU also said by next week!

So two of my letter-writers in the last couple of,days said they expect several more acceptances... Not really easing the pressure, if ya know what i mean ..

Exactly. I contacted him, and he was really nice, and replied, but he said he's not taking on any new advisees, and will likely also not be able to continue teaching for the department. Madison was a maybe even before that, because of location and funding (if I wanna head home once a year at least, I need some money. Low cost of living doesn't really help me, because flights are the same)... So I decided not to apply. I'm not saying I regret not applying, because I'm not sure I would be happy to attend, but it sucks knowing that I would have heard from one school by now, ya know?

I just checked. NYU acceptances were out last year today, at 4 pm Eastern, if my calculations are right?

I wouldn't worry about your stats at all. You probably clear any threshold, and beyond that, it will be mostly fit. For theory, GRE shouldn't matter all that much anyway, and your GPA is amazing!

I know, right? It is a very loaded topic, though I do not want to add to the normative, loaded discussion, but rather shine some light so that understanding it better can hopefully lead to better decision-making...

Just found out that a new dataset on my topic of interest was compiled by The Heritage Foundation. I do take any positive sign that I can, and this does show that my topic is relevant/interesting for the US, right?^^

Nameology is either the study or the ideology of names, obviously... ;-) maybe a little of both?

Looks like one of my professors did not submit his reference to one of my courses... Strange, because when I last checked, the reference showed up as received, but now, it's gone... Checking again! Such a mess...
