  1. Yes, this is what I meant by my previous comment. The "status" thing may or may not change. I thought about e-mailing the UofT grad admin at work all day. I could send a general inquiry, but if no one has posted a PhD acceptance, or rejection, I think it's a bit premature. Also, my intent is to get the bottom of the "short-list" e-mail. Unless I can confirm 100% that the e-mail went to PhD applicants, as well, I don't want to confuse them. So, that's my reasoning, at this point. Not that I feel any better . . .
  2. Several of the PhDs that graduated during the time, or just before, I was doing my MA (in Canada) got TT jobs in the States (and not at lesser known institutions either). I don't think you need to worry too much about that. I think wherever you feel most comfortable is the best choice, but I would go for the funding. It just makes your life easier. Are there any funding prospects at Toronto, at all? Maybe things will be different when you finish your MA, but it's quite difficult as an international in the US, right now, so don't put all your eggs in that basket. I see you're in English Lit, and the Hum/Soc.Science are definitely hurting the most.
  3. The thing about the "under review" is that my experience with those systems tells me they're not terribly reliable. I may e-mail the department, tomorrow, I'll let you know if hear anything useful.
  4. thanks. me too!
  5. No, I didn't receive the "short-list" e-mail. So, the e-mail did, in fact, also go out to PhD applicants. I just want to make sure before I attempt e-mailing grad admin. Thanks for the reply.
  6. Does anyone has any information concerning U of T Religion PhD admissions? Anything would be of help. Waiting is wearing me down.
  7. Drew was the first response. I'm still waiting on three (1 US school; 2 CAD schools). I'm hoping for good out of one of those. They haven't started to notify.
  8. Thanks! I heard from Drew today. Rejected. Very disappointed, but wasn't surprised. Hard to get into an American school as an international right now (in Hum/Social Science anyway). Still waiting on the others. It's great that you have some choices, and still waiting to hear from the rest. That's definitely enviable position, I think.
  9. Congrats! That's a great program!
  10. Got rejection in the mail from Drew today. Disappointed, but as international, wasn't holding my breadth. Congrats to all who got in.
  11. I improved my GRE score by 100 points on one section, and 170 on another. I improved my AWA score by 1.0. I took a Kaplan "Live-Online" course, for 5 weeks. I studied for another month. Taking a lot of practice tests helped endurance wise, since it's a long test (and I have a short attention span!)
  12. I don't know if they accept students "per-area," since they have area groupings, and not sub-fields. Their web-site says they accept 10 PhD students year, but that's just a rough guideline

  13. Yes, thank you. I'm hoping my mail isn't delayed too long, as an international. I'm going away this weekend too! Hoping to get my mind off things a few days.
  14. You've got an admit, so far, and that's great! Good luck with Drew. Someone else, on the religion forum, said they're running a little behind this year. I'm an international student, so I'm cautiously optimistic of my chances at US schools.
  15. Postbib, did you apply to "Religion & Society" at Drew? If so, me too. Seems like a popular sub-field.
  16. lol, your response is funny.
  17. I thinks it's disgusting what UNC said to you. You don't want to go there, anyway, if that's the way it is.

  18. am in religion and culture sub-field, not NT. Are you applying to the Centre or St.Michael's?

  19. Thanks! I appreciate you posting that. I think I'll just have to wait it out.
  20. I applied to U of T Centre for the Study of Religion, PhD. I did not receive an e-mail either. I've never heard of them doing this before, so it be something they decided to do this year. Does that mean if you don't receive the e-mail you can assume rejection? How long do we have to wait? If it's a short-list and not a wait-list, why wouldn't they just wait to notify people when they accept them? Schools don't normally tell you that you're on a "short-list" of possible candidates in a departmental e-mail. I just don't want to be in limbo for another three weeks--would rather know now.
  21. wow! you're in a pretty upscale area. so, you're free to stroll the gardens and wander saint-germain-des-pres . . i'm super jealous. i'd do anything for a "Paul" sandwich right now. i know it's like a fast food chain there, but I love the salmon sandwich

  22. It does appear schools are lagging.
  23. Frankenstein complex
  24. I think this is good advice. I've done ldr, successfully, on and off for four years. Plus, 20 is too young to settle-down even if you think you're ready.
