  1. Definitely do it. I would wait until after April 15th, but that's totally your call. You may be more likely to get a helpful (or any) response at that time.
  2. I'm pretty sure the paper test is not an option in most parts of the world, now, definitely not in North America.
  3. Did they say how long they would be delayed? Who do you want to work with in R&S?
  4. The questions at the beginning are more important than those at the end. If you do well on the first 1/3, and breeze through the last 1/3 (if you have to), you can still end up with a decent score.
  5. see your in gaie paris. I lived there for 18 months and did my MA field work there. Are you living in ile de france? which arrondissements? I lived in the 8th and 4th. now I want a coffee macaroon :(

  6. I love Woody Allen, but hate Larry David, lol. I'm in the March camp too.
  7. congrats on everyone's acceptances!
  8. bachelor pad
  9. application fantasy
  10. So, people who write it once, and get a good score, are higher on the intelligence continuum than those who have to write it three times to get a good score? I think that says more about test prep than innate intelligence. Good thing you didn't post that in the psych forum!
  11. I'm impressed this works in some parts of the world! I tried it in France-to no avail. Remember to put it on the correct hand.
  12. I'm in a similar position, score-wise. None of my schools have replied, yet, so I can't say much on that end. I don't want to get into why the GRE is, or is not, useful, but as a Canadian, the emphasis on GRE is totally baffling to me.
  13. I'm anxious for Drew as well. I really liked the advisor I met.
  14. Congratulations!
  15. I can see why the department would object to your partner coming to the interview (or conference?) part, as it's probably not the best idea (although the other school seemed OK with it). I don't see why they would care if they came with to the city, town, whatever. That is certainly strange. I'm guessing it was a misunderstanding.
  16. I was thinking the same thing, but I'm from a cold, lots of snow, place, too.
  17. I don't know if you're Canadian, but if you are, you'll know there are some marked differences in the development of education, here, in Canada. Perhaps it is changing in Canadian philosophy, but that is an anomaly more than a trend. Even if a department doesn't state they require an MA, it's still an unwritten rule. Maybe if, say, your credentials are stellar and you have a reference from "god," you're in the clear. People getting direct entry are a very rare exception, not the rule. (I speak from a non-sciences perspective)
  18. I'm not in sociology, but my partner is a quantitative sociologist (in academia). Check out University of Michigan: Graduate Program Other than teach and do research in a university, you can do a number of things with such a degree and be highly successful.
  19. First I have to say that I'm shocked your research advisor suggested this. I think it's a very bad idea. However, I would have no problem compromising. Ultimately, you'll be able to do the research you want. You need the credentials first.
  20. I saw you mention this before. I disagree, I don't think it's a trend.
  21. Agreed. It's unusual in Canada not to do an MA. There are very few places that accept applicants without an MA. I think it's a better practice.
  22. I second "Wonder Boys" Definitely captures the grad school atmosphere.
  23. Congrats!
  24. I've heard nothing but negatives too. There are exceptions--someone on this board made the case pretty well. Generally, I wouldn't do it.
