Sometimes I wish that I applied to a county w/ a higher acceptance rate. Mine is floating around 15%... versus 30% for other countries. :\

OMG! I just received a notification from Fulbright! ...or so I thought. It was just a survey. I'm starting to think they REALLY want me to reach mortality early.
-
I also applied for graduate school and another job opportunity, and am super nervous right now to hear back from all of them! My cortisone levels seem perpetually high every spring.

Sometimes I get insomnia thinking about Fulbright.

Swap/Critique My SOP in Planning
kbui replied to Aurust's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
Let's swap? I'm applying to a public health masters. bui23353 at gmail. -
You're right. I'm just going to keep my ~850 words and send it in. *Furiously deleting "Ever since I was a child... When I first read..." and "I realized my deep passion for..."*

Thanks! I'm just kind of apprehensive that admissions will be done reading it and think, "What the hell? Is that it?"

Greetings, I'm currently writing my SoP for the Yale School or Public Health's MPH program, and their word limit is 1500 words. I recently wrote one for Harvard's MPH program, and theirs is only 600 words. So I've spent all this time condensing everything I need to say, and I feel like I have a really high-impact essay. However, after expanding what I wanted to say originally, I have ~800-900 words. Should I write more? I can definitely write until I get arthritis, but I feel like other applicants are going to write a lot and admissions will like that more? Help!!!

I'm so envious of you!

I had a couple classmates who received a scholarship through Taiwan's MOE, though I'm not sure how they applied. One of my classmates just said she applied through her school...?

I'm hoping this is the case. How wonderful it would be to get good news amid living in the arctic tundra that is Minnesota.

And January is upon us! Please, Lord, have the committee send me a recommendation letter.

So I also applied for the JET (Japanese English Teaching) program, and just from the forums I can tell there are two different breeds of applicants that apply to each respective program. There have been several thought provoking and organized conversation on here with prospective Fulbrighters, but on the JET program's unofficial forum, there have been multiple people just blatantly stating, "I'm awesome, so I'm going to get the grant," and "I only spent an hour on my application, I don't know why everyone is stressing out about it." I'm really glad to have this community.

I've been avoiding the forum for a while since I've been busy with work, traveling, and other applications, but just wanted to know that there are other people out there just as nervous as I am. Let's keep out fingers crossed that the people reviewing our applications are in a good mood when doing so.

I haven't checked out NYU's global health program yet, but after a quick glance at their website, it DOES seem underwhelming. Especially because their biggest current news is their new location on a floor somewhere. T_T

Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans - 2014/15
kbui replied to Yellow Magnet's topic in The Bank
Actually, after my post I went to seek out more information. And the competition is crazy! ~1000 applications with ~30 scholars. And virtually all of them have been accepted into top tier universities or have graduated from one and studying at another. I think I'll have to get my profile up before I apply. Hopefully I'll get into a prestigious university this year, and then apply to have my second year funded. -
The acceptance rate is ghastly low! But I hope you get it! I applied for the Boren instead, which gave me a bit more flexibility in what I can do and just as intensive. You should look into it also. They give 8K for the summer.

How competitive is the fellowship? -
It's so odd. I received the generic (automated) email too, but then got another one on top of it. And it seems like it was rushed because Fulbright was spelled wrong in the title. I hope it's a good sign?
-
Someone please answer! Was it just me? And if it was, why?!
-
Did anyone else get an email from Jody saying that Fulbright has received your application?
-
That's it. I submitted it. There's no turning back now! Now, we play the waiting game...

I'm so excited! This is actually happening! I've written my essays and had them reviewed by two former fellows, so I have a good feeling this year. AND all of my recommendation letters are in. I hope people are having the same kind of luck!
