Post-Acceptance Stress & Misc. Banter
TripWillis replied to TripWillis's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I feel lucky that CUNY is about 4-6 (depending on if an express Q comes) subway stops from me, and Rutgers is 41 miles or so. Amherst is not even too bad. Buffalo woulda been a huge bummer. -

I just saw that someone got into Berkeley super early off of the waitlist. Congrats to you! I take this as an early sign that we will all get in off waitlists to wherever we want to go ever. -
Woo! Way to go, user name!

I assume this is a reference to the dowager on Downton Abbey. -

You almost made me -1 you on rep points. Especially because you didn't make some important distinctions. Star Trek II, IV, and First Contact > Everything after The Empire Strikes Back ANH and ESB > Star Trek on the whole Star Trek on the whole > Jar Jar Binks prequels and Return of the Jedi -

Really? My sister recommended this too. I'll have to check it out. I just re-watched Star Trek: First Contact for the first time a while. It is awesome. This and Star Trek II (and IV) is da best ones. Also, I am drinking right now. Yay! Star Trek in the canon FTW. Serious. 'Specially TNG. -

Books NOT to read-
TripWillis replied to perrykm2's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
While I don't believe there are truly any books NOT to read, I would not give high priority to reading any Henry Adams, if I were you guys. Incredibly important as historical documents, and mandatory reading for Americanists, but of almost zero relevance to anyone else not interested in amateur metaphysics and the "wonderful unity" in medieval aesthetics. His description sucks the life out of any interesting topic you could think of: politics, art, national difference... all of it. It's also pretty anti-semitic. -

I can understand the desire to give them bear hugs; they're really nice e-mailers. -

I wrote an e-mail asking some questions about the program, but I decided not to pressure her for an answer on my waitlist position. I think we just have to be patient; these places can't really know much until after prospective open houses, right? -
