I'm actually doing intentional fortune theory now which is where you try to guess the meaning of a poem based on tarot cards designed by Donna Haraway.

I think it's possible they're still working out the last waitlist spots. It looks like in the past they offered quite a few. I imagine that they're going to see what happens with these first waitlist people and with their initial acceptances and then go forth. Then again, maybe it's just some bureaucratic thing.

Amen. Prestige, however, often does positively correlate to placement. Rutgers is 69%. Cornell is 76% (Source: NRC) Really that's kind of a wash though. And the girlfriend is definitely a big motivating factor.

Forgive me for being cheeky. Both excellent programs. Cornell's perceived prestige would be pretty attractive to me though...

I just got a second rejection e-mail from BU, and they're sending a letter in the mail. What... why... what is the rationale behind that? To demoralize you by rubbing it in your face and to fill you with false hope by sending you emails with non-descript subject lines? God, if I were 0-fer and clinging for hope, an unopened email like that would tell me: "WE MADE A MISTAKE! WE MEANT TO ACCEPT YOU!" Jerks.

Yeah -- it's one of those pieces that creepily romanticizes the male professor/female student sexual power dynamic. But, you know, she's blind too. So either Lionel Ritchie has a heart of gold and is willing to see past her disability and into her soul (or whatever), or he is taking advantage of the fact she can't see him stalking her all the time (although, presumably she can hear those golden pipes creeping up behind her). Also, the Lionel Ritchie bust at the end is so... awkwardly bad. Anyway, yes, someone needs to write about it. Anyone here into postmodern pop culture?
