0% Confidence of Acceptance

Sorry guys and ladies, but big bang theory is not a good show. Sorry. Instead: The IT Crowd. Similar niche. It had to be said, though, for taste. -

Dibs on making next season's 0% Confidence of Acceptance thread. Judging by TripWillis' success it seems like a winning maneuver. Just kidding, we all know Two Espressoes is 2013's TripWillis. -

Depending on how Buffalo decides, I might be left with an unfunded MA as my only option out of phd apps. However, I have the time/lack of a Future to re-apply next year, PhD and MA. It would be wisest to just wait for next year and also weigh potentially funded MA options, yes? I'll check out the above link, thanks, I had that thread open in a tab but was too distressed to read. -
Wait listing is NOT the end!

Yeah. -
Good thread.

The fact that I even applied to Cornell with the app that I did is pretty embarrassing and funny. Let's make it official so I can get on with my life.

Interesting thread, I do feel like this community is surprisingly unpretentious. That said, if I see/think "I am interested in period or theory, specifically x application of y with respect to z" I think I may cry or laugh or throw up possibly all at once.

Fellow Vanderbilt rejectees
rawera replied to Homeless's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
yeah, that's what I thought too. Any one know anything about PhD then prep school teaching? I don't think I'm opposed to that sort of job once I have the PhD proof that I for whatever reason need. -
Fellow Vanderbilt rejectees
rawera replied to Homeless's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Is there any way to interpret that link other than a "are you really sure you even want to do this?" way? Which is obviously a comment on the discipline/industry (ha), not you Homeless. You already got feedback from Vanderbilt? Pretty nice turnaround. I suspect I'll ask later on, and will receive the same reasons you were given. But as you said, something for next year. -
I felt this way whenever I started upon the list of schools to which I was applying (haha, have applied...it's all in the past now), I usually used Michigan in order to trick people into believing I had a safety school. Oh well, this was round one for me and I probably only now grasp the gravity of graduate school applications. Also for various reasons I didn't bother to apply to any MA programs, so there's round 2.1 potentially there. down but not out, right?

Brown's app looked like a shitty social media service, right? -
As far as law school goes a friend recently recommended the book "Happy Hour is for Amateurs" it's a blog turned book that details someone's experiences in various stages of law. It definitely turned me off from law, and it was an enjoyable read (he reads like a tolerable Tucker Max?). RE: driving jobs. I deliver sandwiches (how stupid is that) and you realize that if you're on delivery you're more or less free. Own space, own music, own thoughts. It can be a very meditative night if you're busy enough (30 sec of customer interaction, 10-15 minute drive, repeat with tips). Aside from that, it's miserable as it is fast food.

As one of the remaining 0% confidence posters, I think I have accepted that I'll have to re-apply in 2013. I actually feel better about it now, realizing this pass was an expensive experiment in which I learned a lot. I will probably check into Asia, like all the other Liberal Arts drop outs, something I didn't do this year after undergrad because I was too busy GRE prepping, etc. -

Does anyone else imagine this is what the rapture would be like? Waiting to see who gets taken away to graduate school heaven (or purgatory) while us sinners remain.....LEFT BEHIND. -
Songs with great lyrics...Avoid music gods!

I appreciate the social anxiety that lies central to many of their songs. Great songs without lyrics: Explosions in the Sky -
I was hoping the weekend would give me some reprieve.
