I'm officially going to Vanderbilt! Anyone else?
-
Having lived in or close to all 3 places, I have to say I like San Diego the most. The school is in an nice area and you can find a lot of affordable housing. There is good reliable transportation and not a lot of traffic jams like UCLA. I haven't lived in Maryland for a while so I can't help you as much with taht.

UCLA Chemistry is having a visitation day for admitted applicants tomorrow, Friday 3/23.

Still technically considering it for biochemistry but unlikely

Hey, I'm visiting for the Chemistry program as well this Friday, but I already live in LA. Feel free to PM me if you got any questions. Otherwise, I will probably see you there.
-
There's also the option of associate professors in the middle who might act like a younger or an older faculty member. I been asking the graduate students of these professors and I find some are still pretty vested in their graduate students even after establishing a name/funding/connections.
-
If I end up going to UCLA, I will send you a PM if you are interested. I live in LA right now and have some friends at UCLA so I know the places pretty well. I'm also 23, male and pretty fresh out of college.
-
I have declined Rochester and Indiana but still considering UCLA and Colorado along with non-chemistry programs at other schools.
-
Yeah, my program told me it will be around 11-12 before they get the fellowship decision back form the university.
-
I'm personally a little fearful that Vandy has a ton of traffic in and around the school...I'm trying to get away from that big city traffic jam
-
Lol nice three thread post...I'm not sure which one to respond to. I'm visiting the Chem program on their visitation day, March 24th I think, will decide soon after that.

Even if it is home to the greatest football team on earth.

I interviewed with a gateway program that feeds intro depts like chemistry at Irvine and they were happy to cover expenses before and after arrival to Irvine, even if its not part of the official schedule (IE...dinner during trip there/hoe)

Congrats, I'm visiting next weekend to check it out
-
It's minimum 20-25 minutes at any reasonable time of day, up to a hour in rush hour traffic. It's a little better if you live Mid-Wilshire but then your commute to UCLA will be a hassle.

Personally, I just said I am excited and happy to hear of my acceptance but I still have a few schools to visit before I can make my decision. -

Awkward Silence Fillers and Conversation Starters
EquationForLife replied to MakeYourself's topic in Interviews and Visits
I end up just talking to people around me...it's weird that they stick you at a table of like 8-10 and expect everyone to go around and answer the same questions. You can always ask about research but that will burn out as the weekend goes on. -
Absolutely, especially since with most airlines you can add the frequent flyer info when you check in so you don't need to contact the school if they booked the flight for you. If I book my own flight, I stick with one airline instead of finding the absolute cheapest...the difference in the end is usually under 50 dollars.

It's my top choice but I'm finishing a few visits first.
-
Hi, i have a little bit of a weird situation. I got accepted into one of my top choices (after interviewing) but I already made plans/reservations to visit other schools prior to receiving the admissions offer. Should I mention something to the other schools or not? I can't cancel my visitation trip completely because I already book the plane ticket and I can't afford to be on the hook for all the airfare (reimbursement comes afterwards). I would certainly consider still going to the other schools if I end up getting a good fellowship, I'm just not sure if there's something I should mention to the schools. Also in the meantime, should I reply back to my top choice school and give them a date for making my decision? In the admissions offer, they mention that it's rolling admissions so they would like to hear back from me as soon as possible.

Vanderbilt Interdisciplinary Grad Program Biomed
EquationForLife replied to Leslie Johnson's topic in Waiting it Out
I was there for the related but separate CPB program and I believe there's another interview weekend in early March. It also takes a while since they admit like 80 people a year.- 8 replies
