  1. hey 12WardP! ok so some people have been talking about submitting 3-4 page resumes and others will be doing onepagers. I'm sure it doesn't really matter - do what you are most comfortable with but make sure it's clear and there is no extraneous info on there. but also that you don't leave out any important stuff. that's my take on it.
  2. hey just saw this, and have my own question to add - is anyone using a specific format for their resume? if so, which one? thanks!
  3. have you thought about American? it might be more in line with your GPA and GRE scores with the advantage of being in DC where there is ample room for gaining valuable internship experience. also, what kind of work experience do you have? that might be crucial.
  4. thanks so much Fell4Ever - i really appreciate that. i'm pretty confident about the rest of my application so i'm going for it. we'll see how it all turns out MYRNIST, you're right as well - i just hope it won't hurt too much
  5. I love Douglas Adams Anyway, I am panicking a little bit and desperately need your guys' advice. I consider myself a competitive applicant, with a good deal of development work experience in a foreign (developing) country. I'm planning to apply to two-three government programs that I would love to get into. This is where the problem comes in - I took the GRE today and did much worse than I expected. I got a 153 quant and 160 verbal. That being said, the opposite is actually true about my qualifications - I went into college as an intended math major (though I ended up only minoring in the end), and one of my LoRs will actually be from a math professor who I worked with. On the other hand, English is more of a second language for me so I'm surprised to have gotten a higher verbal score, especially on my first try. What I'm wondering is (even though I have heard repeatedly that the GREs are just one aspect of the application) whether this can in some way disqualify my previous math experience. Will it be used as a weightier indicator of my abilities to tackle quantitative work than my academic experience? If not, how will it be regarded? I would really appreciate some feedback! Thanks and sorry if the title of the post misled anyone
  6. thanks for the words of encouragement MartianQ! I appreciate it and you're absolutely right
  7. thank you both! yeah, the charts and data questions usually take up the most of my time, too. and when i practiced i tried using the calculator sparingly (also, the practice test calculator on the ETS practice exam didn't work well for some reason), i should be ok in that respect... wish me luck
  8. Hey everyone, I'm taking the GRE the first time (and last time because the deadlines for most of the programs I'm applying to are at the beginning of December) tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous because of the time issue - I know how to do all of the problems but I haven't taken many timed practice exams (only the free one on the ETS website). What is your experience of the exam (the Quant section in particular)? Did you feel rushed while you were taking the exam? Did you have time to go back and check your answers? I'm asking because I've heard mixed reviews - some say that there's more time on the new GRE, some say less... Any advice for tomorrow is appreciated!
  9. wow, thanks for the tip myrnist. i had no idea. i'll make sure to do that, though i can't say the application fees don't hurt
  10. Hey guys! I was wondering if any of you know what upper-tier Government schools on the East Coast offer the best financial aid packages for internationals? I know WWS is one of them... any other suggestions, though? I'm an international but I did my undergrad in the US, so I'm looking for ways to minimize any additional debt in grad school. Thanks!
