Ohhh, I am happy to hear they were feeling okay teaching 2:1 and taking courses. That's the situation I'm looking at right now (unless some other funding happens either before I come, or while I'm there) and I was a bit worried about the 2-course semesters, because during my MFA I only taught 1:1. While I teach 2, I'm only supposed to take 2 (and then when I teach 1, take 3), so that sounds okay. But I still wonder what that end-of-semester crunch will be like. Did they elaborate on how they balance teaching with coursework? -
What about statuses for the Creative Writing Ph.D -- has anyone's changed to say the same thing? Mine hasn't.

I wouldn't take the blog ranking too seriously because it's a very, very informal ranking -- it's based on the blog poll on the sidebar of the blog. basically, the programs with the most "votes" are higher in the "ranking." So this means that the "top 10" or so (plus or minus what? two points? five points?) are probably considered "better" by the community in some extremely vague sense, but the exact order in which they appear from year to year is variable. I think Utah and Denver are similar in reputation? maybe? I don't know. they aren't so far apart, anyway, that it should really matter. but they are very different in other ways. so I would make your decision by comparing structure, funding, faculty "fit," location, etc. One factor to keep in mind is teaching; it's better for your CV to have teaching experience in creative writing and lit as well as composition. I know Utah allows students to teach creative writing and lit. Not sure about Denver, but it's probably in the handbook.

where are you in, anti? Houston usually doesn't notify until later, like mid-March.
-
I'd say go if they give at least 4 full years.
-
I thought FSU fully funded everyone, one way or another. Do you know how many they took in each genre? and congrats!
-
does anyone know what's going on with Mizzou? are they done in English and Creative Writing? I know some people have been accepted here -- have they implied that they're done in any way?
-
re: the results board, why do you think Utah took four poets and only two fiction writers? that seems somewhat lopsided. I always thought programs accepted equal amounts poetry and fiction.
-
Well, it's good that you haven't been rejected yet, right? Since insertbrackets was rejected by the website already (sorry, insertbrackets ) . Good luck!
-
thanks! sounds like she's having a good season. I didn't apply there (for me: Utah, Houston, Missouri, FSU, and USC) but I almost did. They're supposed to have good funding for the area. still no news today. yet. stress!

desipoet, if your friend gets accepted to any other poetry Ph.D programs not already on the survey/board, can you inform us through either channel?

holy hell, congrats hazelbite. were you the one who posted "EXCITED" in the info field? I lol'd. -
I've pretty much been imagining everyone as female except for TripWillis, unless they have a boy's name in their username (like MichaelK). I don't know why?
-
and English Ph.D people have apparently been getting calls this afternoon. I have a feeling this means the CWR program is notifying as well.... meep.
-
I was hoping that was you! (I remembered seeing UNCG in your signature). Congrats!

Is anyone else about to burst into flames? Last year, according to the MFA Research Project, acceptances went out on 2/23 (today, dammit). Also, I do think waitlistees received emails.
-
Three of my schools switched to all-online applications just this year. They all had some quirks and issues to remedy. FSU was one -- they emailed post-deadline and asked us to specify our creative writing genre because the online form hadn't allowed us to do so. I'm thinking these schools might all notify a little later than in years past, but who knows.

AUUUUUUUUUGH this wait. It's awful. Why is this happening to us. That's it. I'm getting my hair done this afternoon. I don't care if it's expensive. If I can't be accepted today, at least I can lose the split ends. -
I didn't apply there, but that can't be right. Maybe another two weeks, but another month? Like, really? By then, half their first choice acceptees will have fallen in love with the other programs they've researched and visited and craigslisted since their February acceptances...

There are some people over at creative-writing-mfa-handbook2.blogspot.com/, but people don't post there too much, either. It is a strange beast. When I first finished my MFA, I thought for sure I wouldn't apply for the Ph.D. And now here I am. I think more and more MFA grads are applying as time goes on.
-
I applied. I'd expect to hear sooner than mid-March if you're accepted, but who knows.
-
Do you teach 2/2? or 2/1 or 1/1/? I think it's pretty cheap to live there. During my MFA, I made about $14K for 1/1 in a place with a similar cost of living as yours, and it was actually still hard for me to afford life...but I also had a generous amount of time to work on my coursework, because I only had 25 students. I was so grateful for that time. 2/2 seems like a lot of work to me, on top of all that coursework/exam prep, especially for 2K less a year. Of course, full funding is full funding and we should all hope to be so lucky! (By which I mean: please, FSU creative writing dept, accept me.)
-
$12K for 2/2? Yikes. That's terrible.

damn, it looks like everyone applied to Brown! That results page is completely full of Brown rejections, and they keep on coming. Congrats to Grimwig and condolences to everyone else!

Oh. my. god. WHY are they taking so long? I'm dying.
