i have had people tell me to stop reading to forums too! i guess it makes me feel better to read what other people think about all of this and to see if any new news has come in! -
antecedant, that is so inspiring! i think ill get back into a running routine too, this is a great time to focus one extra energy towards a race!

I think that the other pieces of your application matter far more than this paperwork! Try to stay confident!

I wonder that too. I always write thank you notes, but I don't want a pre-acceptance note to be mistaken for pandering.

in terms of an "unofficial wait list" i have heard this may exist. a read a post from someone in another thread who said that at their university, the dept sometimes needs more time to look at certain applications and that is why some individuals hear back about acceptances much later. although i don't know anything about the chafes of getting in off the wait list.

I just want to echo the research experience can be so important! So masters, job searches, and even volunteer work at a local college in research is a GREAT application booster.

I don't use academia.edu but I tend to agree that if they already have your CV and other app documents they probably don't feel the need to do additional searching. Let me know if you find and other info on this.

I think it can also depend on the school. I have visited the campus I am interviewing at before and the students and professors both dressed in a casual way. I think even during an interview this trend would stick.
-
Good tips. I think that trying to read the room and see how others are responding is a good strategy but I want to make sure my responses are original and sincere. I am hopeful to have more one on one interviews because I think this provides a good opportunity to have a great dialogue. EEEK the group!

I am planning something more casual. Im thinking khaki. But I will look polished. For the social events, I plan to bring regular clothing (jeans, dress) that I would wear with friends but still conservative and polished. Im thinking minimal jewerly as well.

haha. well i guess then we are still in the waiting room.

I dont know that my letter writters are well known but we have positive working relationships. I hope to go to grad school and become well known (to advance the field and to pursue my passion but also) to write strong letters for my future students when they go through this process haha

is it more typical to hear from faculty or from the department?

I talk about my apllications A LOT. I think my roommate has had it! I am so anxious to hear back and to know how I have been evaluated. The wait is so rough. I agree with one of the above posters, books and movies help. I am also participating in some on campus activities, and trying to prep for interviews and visits as a way to pass the time. Maybe we will get acceptances for valentines? -

How much weight is given to LORs?
-
I do wonder what my LORs look like sometimes. But i try not to think about it too much since they are already submitted.
-
Sounds like positive information! Congrats!

What do you guys think about the relationship between school ranking and job placement?
