Waiting it out 2012... 'I've just submitted my application' thread
oseirus replied to fenderpete's topic in Waiting it Out
Man I feel horrible now! I only applied to 5 and even then I thought I was overdoing it. After seeing most people were doing 7-8 I wasn't too concerned, now I'm getting all jittery that I didn't apply to enough schools. -
I went to the magic 8 ball and sources say chances are good for that one to happen

Well my proverbial cap is def. doffed! As for getting into one, I'm sure the #s play in your favor ... no? -
I have to say, it is pretty bang up of Yale to be offering interviews this early on. For those of you who are applying to the other Ivies I'm sure you would have appreciated something like that right about now or did I miss that wave too? Oh and congrats to all who have interviews, goes without saying. I hope you get the puppy Bean. In the mean time, I will be stressing out about how my Giants are going to fare against the Pats. Beats worrying about grad school for a 2 week stretch if you ask me

I think we can def. discard that piece of advice! Wish these Emily Post types would evolve for the digital age & come up w/practical solutions. You can't fit telegram manners into the twitter age. That's my humble opinion

Thanks you guys! Def makes for a great backup ... just in case ...

13?!?!? How did you stay sane? Man you are a better person than I am b/c I would probably have given up after 8 or just said eff it after all 13 were done. I would be very bitter either way. -
WOW I take a day off from this thread and so much has occured. Congrats to Owls for the interview and hope you knock it out of the park. As for everyone else, just remember, only a week (and 2 days) away from Feb!

that first one suspiciously sounds like humblebrag to me ... thought that was a new social networking faux pas?

On that point, as far as the subconscious narrative is concerned, I will concede but with a caveat. I do think even those with a prejudice can limit it (their prejudices) in a scope so as not to be overtly advocating one particular position. The subtext is then open left to the interpretation of the individual reader.

For any particular field w/in history or is for all the history specialties ?

I have a feeling some people get going to get upset at this comment

Let me clarify by what I mean when I say the right way, I mean the need to not selectively editing research to fit a model you have already preconceived. You have to go in blind, no matter what you already know (or think you know). I concede that human emotions will always crop up, no matter how much you try to push them back, this doesn't mean we are to indulge them. Objectivity ISN'T reinforcing the status quo. The purpose of objectivity is to look at an issue w/no prejudice and present the issue clearly, with all available evidence that supports the case. When I hear objectivity, I expect to hear both sides, but that doesn't mean I expect it to be slant free. You can choose to be an advocate for one issue and still be objective by acknowledging what critics may have said about the issue. This leaves the reader the choice to either support your argument in totality or for them to do further investigations IF they feel narrative is incomplete.

I'm now leaning towards a gradual approach, whereby I don't necessarily tease the information but I release it in small sections. I too had a decent amount of people help out with my application, CV, SOP, etc, so rather than just text a legion of people, I'll probably announce around March where I stand so as not to be bombarded with inquests and the like, about what my upcoming plans are.
-
How were you able to emphasis your military/Americorps background into your SOP? Or did you choose to focus mostly on your academic background?

Can't wait for the Durmstrang interview process!

oh don't worry you aren't alone but lo! there is a light creeping closer -
I second the sentiments ... also does anyone have a firm idea of how other schools have done their interview process in the past few years?
-
Did anyone else apply this year?

You feeling any better? -
Well if it makes you feel any better I didn't even realize that int'l MAs were a viable alternative until the beginning of this month. I don't think most people did unless it was something they were looking into long before they applied.
-
Oh I have made plans all the way through Z, now I just hope I don't have to go that far b/c some of those other plans kind of need an answer now so I can get a jump start on them otherwise I'll be behind the power curve. Well not really but that's the paranoid me speaking but nothing like a little paranoia to get you through the tough times I say!
-
Well all the above really ... kinda already quit one job b/c it takes 6 months or so to get out of the job and if I didn't quit now and I got accepted I wouldn't be able to go to school ... so I'm taking a gamble of sorts here
-
Does anyone know if any of the other schools have initiated an interview process? Don't mean to pile on the speculation train here or anything, just trying to get a sense of how things could shake out
